Now that the snowstorm is finally over, we would like to take this time to thank the hardworking crew members of the Richmond Heights Service Department for a job well done. The crew started at 1am on Sunday morning and rotated every 12-14 hours. Everyone finally got to go home and see their families at 7pm Monday night. There were always at least five trucks on the road at all times. Not only are the crew responsible for the streets, but they are also responsible for every city-owned parking lot. They must ensure they are kept clean so the Richmond Heights Police Department and the City of Richmond Heights Division of Fire can respond to emergencies without getting stuck in their parking lots. There was also a crew of three making sure that all City buildings, sidewalks, and RTA bus stops are clear of snow and ice. After the storm, a crew member was assigned to plow the City's sidewalks, and all small pickup trucks are now cleaning up cul-de-sacs and corners. We also want to thank the Richmond Heights Police Department for assisting us during this storm by reminding residents about the parking ban. Without the ban in place, clearing the street would be extremely hard. We would also send a big thank you to the City of Richmond Heights Mayor, Kim Thomas, for taking a ride with us during the snowstorm to see what it is like to plow with one of these trucks. The Mayor got to experience firsthand what a plow truck operator does during a 12-14-hour shift. Not only are they driving, but they are also operating the plow and salt spreader, communicating with each other on the radio, watching for traffic, and attending to civilians. Clearing these streets, parking lots, and sidewalks would not be possible without these hardworking service department crew members.

With winter weather coming in this weekend, this is a good time to remind everyone of the blind spots plow drivers have when operating plow trucks. Please remember to stay 100' back from a plow truck, and please be patient as the service crew members work hard and around the clock clearing the roads. Thank you,

Due to the predicted winter weather expected for this weekend, a parking ban is being put into effect for all city streets from 7pm on Saturday, January 24th through 7pm on Monday, January 26th. Thank you for your cooperation.
