The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Smyth County in southwestern Virginia...
Southwestern Tazewell County in southwestern Virginia...

* Until 1145 AM EDT.

* At 1049 AM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from 9 miles northwest of War to near Davenport to near
Norton, moving southeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Marion...
Richlands...
Saltville...
Chilhowie...
Cedar Bluff...
Nebo...
and Raven.

Prepare immediately for damaging winds. For your safety, move to an
interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away
from windows.

Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in
ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and
minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid
hydroplaning.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of hail of any
size, as well as reports of any wind damage, including downed trees
or large limbs, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free

At 424 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Tiptop, or 8 miles west of Bluefield, moving southeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
Bland...
Bluefield...
Bastian...
Burkes Garden...
Clear Fork...
Gratton...
and Tiptop.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the
passing of Bill Patton, a former longtime member and employee of Richlands Volunteer Rescue Squad / Richlands Fire-Rescue who passed away August 28,2026.

Bill proudly served his community for more
than six decades, dedicating his life to help
ing others from 1963 through 2022. His
commitment, compassion, and unwavering
service touched countless lives he helped.

Bill's legacy of selfless service, dedication,
and community spirit will never be forgot-
ten. We are grateful for the many years he
devoted to protecting and caring for the
citizens of our community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill's
family, friends, and fellow rescue, fire dept. personnel during this time of loss.

Rest in Peace Bill thank you for your 60 years of service your watch has ended but your legacy lives on. Bill Patton, EVOC Driver #280
