Diego was nine years old when he and his mother left Venezuela, not knowing where the journey would end. In Peru, he and his cousin were robbed at gunpoint just blocks from their home.

Still, his family kept believing something better was possible.

In 2024, World Relief Western Washington met the Hernandez family at the airport and walked alongside them from day one — connecting them to housing, school enrollment and medical care. Through that support, Diego's younger brother was also diagnosed with autism and received the care he needed for the first time.

Today, Diego is thriving in high school. He’s learning English, playing sports he never had access to before and doing something he couldn't do for years: just being a kid.

"It was God who brought us here," his mother Ana says.

That's what believing in more looks like.

The world has many words for those it casts aside. Jesus uses the word "Neighbor."

Today, 36.4 million refugees are waiting to see which word we choose.

In a time of deep division, our choice of words and our actions matter more than ever. It’s time for the church to remember who we are and move toward the compassion of Christ.

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to issue several significant immigration-related decisions in the coming weeks.

Among the issues to watch are:
• Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians and Syrians
• Birthright citizenship
• Due process protections for asylum seekers

These cases involve complex legal questions, but their outcomes could have real impacts on families, communities and the future of U.S. immigration policy.

Swipe through for a brief overview of what's at stake, and follow along as we continue to provide updates and context when decisions are announced.

“When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”
