Today’s takes us to the recreation hall billiards. This establishment provided entertainment for workers after their shifts. It was mostly a male space, since billiards was a popular game mostly played by men at the time.

🥬Astragalus columbianus is commonly called Columbia milkvetch
🌼Its range is restricted to Yakima, Kittitas, and Benton Counties and it is a local endemic that was once believed to be extinct.
🥬Astragalus columbianus is a short-lived (2 to 4 years) perennial with white to cream colored flowers that normally appear in April.
🌼It is found on gravelly and rocky silt loams, silts, and lithosols. The seedpods are distinctive, turning red when exposed to direct sun, and allow the plant to be recognized for several months after flowering.
🥬Occurrences on Central Hanford Columbia milkvetch is local endemic whose distribution is limited to an area approximately 8 by 40 kilometers(5 by 25 mi) along the Columbia River.

In anticipation of our Rev. 9A renewal coming up this year we are spotlighting a different unit each week so you can learn about each one of them.

Our unit of interest today is the Low-Level Burial Grounds Trenches 31 and 34. They are part of the Solid Waste Operations Complex (SWOC). They are two large rectangular trenches in the southwest corner of the 218-W-5 Burial Ground. They store radioactive and mixed waste.

🏬On June 14, 2012, the N Reactor was placed in Interim Safe Storage.
🏬This is a process known as “cocooning.”
👷Workers removed all supplementary buildings and sealed up the reactor in a concrete and steel enclosure.

In anticipation of our Rev. 9A renewal coming up this year we are spotlighting a different unit each week so you can learn about each one of them.

Our unit of interest today is the Waste Receiving and Processing Facility located at the 200 West area. It started in 1997 and treats up to 3408 gallons of waste per day through a variety of methods, such as compacting, absorbing free liquids, and encapsulation.
