A Cool Addition for Hot Summer Days! As the bright summer days approach, the Woodman Aquatic Center is preparing for a significant upgrade that will keep families cool and comfortable for years to come.

Representatives from the City of Richland Center Parks, Recreation & Grounds Departments and the Rotary Club of Richland Center gathered at the Woodman Aquatic Center for the official groundbreaking of the new splash pad shade structure. This vital addition to the community’s favorite summer destination was made possible through a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Richland Center, continuing their long-standing tradition of investing in local quality of life.

While the splash pad has been a hit with the youngest residents, parents and caregivers have long noted the need for more relief from the midday sun. The new shade structure will offer a safe, shaded retreat for children and parents during peak sun hours and enhance the visitor experience, encouraging families to stay longer and enjoy the facility's amenities.

The Richland Center Public Works Department has been instrumental in the site preparation and logistics, ensuring the project remains on track for the upcoming season. There will be a concrete pad poured under the shelter with a walkway to the splash pad in hopes of alleviating some fun mud puddles near the turtle...sorry kids...your welcome parents! There will still be grassy areas around if you want to lay on a towel.

We are incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club for their vision and generosity. This project is a perfect example of what can be accomplished when the city and community organizations work hand-in-hand to improve our public spaces. This donation is part of a broader mission to support community development. By funding the shade structure, the club is helping to ensure that the splash pad—which remains free of charge to the public—is accessible and comfortable for everyone, regardless of the temperature.

The Public Works Department expects construction to move swiftly, with the goal of having the shade structure fully installed and ready for use by the splash pad's traditional opening on Memorial Day weekend. As we forward to another season of splashes and smiles, the new "Rotary Shade" stands as a testament to the power of community spirit and the enduring value of our local parks.

We have some long overdue thank-yous to share! 🎉

Last month, Julie Cairns - State Farm Agent surprised our lifeguards with donuts in honor of International Lifeguard Day. A couple of weeks ago, Nate's Downtown generously dropped off pizzas for our staff to enjoy as a thank you. We are so grateful for their kindness and support! 🍩🍕💙

As a reminder, today and tomorrow are the final two days of the season. The pool will be closed to the public on Sunday as our staff will be busy cleaning and officially closing things down.

Thank you to everyone who made this summer a great one—we couldn’t do it without you! 💦☀️
