The column of smoke you are seeing from the valley is the Moroni Peak Prescribed Fire being conducted by the FishLake National Forest. From the valley it's location is deceptive and being reported as several different areas. Crews are on scene and operations are going according to plans.

🏆 Utah DNR Cooperator of the Year – 2025 🏆

Congratulations to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, recognized as the 2025 Cooperator of the Year for their exceptional leadership and collaboration during the Monroe Canyon Fire. 🔥

The fire burned more than 74,000 acres across Sevier and Piute Counties, threatening over 250 structures and requiring coordination across multiple agencies. Through it all, Sheriff Nate Curtis and Emergency Manager Bill Taufer demonstrated outstanding leadership, compassion, decisiveness, remained calm under pressure, and an unwavering commitment to public safety.

Their teamwork, communication, and dedication exemplify the spirit of cooperation that defines Utah’s wildfire response community. 🌲👏

We have 4 new firemen in Richfield. Dallas Failner, Jaren Anderson, Taylor Shamo and Andrew Kotter joined the Richfield Fire Department Monday night!

We congratulate them on making it through our rigorous interview process and elections to get on the department. Their sacrifice and willingness to serve the community is very much appreciated and we are very excited to have them with us!

They have already started in-house training and will start UFRA fire academy this January! 🤘👨‍🚒🚒🔥Go get em brothers!

Thanks to all those involved in making this happen! We had the rare opportunity to burn an acquired structure last night. We had all the appropriate approvals and permits to do this training and it was absolute success. We were able to do evolutions on search and rescue, SLICERS, and ventilation. We were able to observe flashover conditions and many other neat things that wouldn't have been possible without this opportunity. It also serves as a reminder to all how quickly things can make a turn for the worse. This fire was started with a match to a pallet and in less than 5 minutes the fire had spread to the attic. In 10 minutes the structure was fully involved in IDLH conditions. Please check your smoke detectors and practice fire safety with your kids!
