As part of this year’s Independence Day celebration, I had the distinct honor of presenting the brand new “Spirit of Richfield" award. This award was created to recognize an individual who exemplifies kindness, selfless service, and an unwavering commitment to making Richfield a better place for all of us.

The first ever recipient could not be more deserving: Ryan Shaddix.

Ryan and his wife, Sara, moved to Richfield in 2014 after 10 years of praying and waiting for the opportunity to build a youth program and start a church here. Since then, Ryan has become a cornerstone of our community, dedicating his life to serving others.

Whether as a pastor, teacher, coach, or mentor, Ryan is constantly pouring his heart into the lives of those around him, especially our youth.

He serves as a Language Arts and Special Education teacher at Richfield High School, a member of the football coaching staff, a Speech and Debate advisor, and the Pastor of Calvary Sevier Valley church. He’s also the Vice President of Sevier Valley Youth Refuge and a coach for the Gatos Soccer Club.

Ryan truly embodies the Spirit of Richfield. His compassion, leadership, and unwavering service inspire us all to love our neighbors a little more and give back a little more freely.

Please join me in thanking Ryan for the light he brings to our community. We are better because of you, Ryan! Congratulations!
