Today, the Richfield Police Department was honored to welcome Julie Gotham, Executive Director of the Minnesota 100 Club, and Sheriff Dawanna Witt, Vice President of the Minnesota 100 Club, as they presented a financial donation to Sergeant Mario Leon and his family to support the recovery from injuries sustained in the line of duty.

On April 29, 2026, Sergeant Leon was shot while attempting to apprehend a fleeing suspect. As Sergeant Leon continues his recovery, we are deeply grateful for the support shown by the Minnesota 100 Club and its commitment to Minnesota’s first responders and their families.

The Minnesota 100 Club provides critical financial assistance to the families of first responders who are seriously injured or killed while protecting and serving our communities. Their support extends to city, county, state, and federal first responders who are injured or lose their lives in the line of duty within Minnesota.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Minnesota 100 Club for standing beside our officers and their families during challenging times. Their generosity serves as a powerful reminder of the strong support network behind Minnesota’s public safety professionals.

A dangerous "fake CAPTCHA" scam is currently tricking users into installing hidden malware.

The FTC is getting reports about a new phishing scam that looks a lot like the CAPTCHA requests you might be used to seeing. Real CAPTCHAs give you image- or text-based tasks to prove you’re not a robot — something like typing letters and numbers exactly as they appear, or matching pictures of t...

The Minnesota law enforcement community is mourning the loss of one of our own. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Lt. Tyler Uthe who tragically passed away.

We honor his service, his commitment to protecting the people of Minnesota, and the impact he made throughout his career.

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Lt. Tyler Uthe, a respected leader, a dedicated servant and friend. His loss is being felt deeply across our agency and by all who had the privilege to serve alongside him.

Our thoughts are with Tyler’s family, friends, loved ones and fellow troopers during this incredibly difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy as they grieve.

As we mourn Tyler’s loss, we are reminded that even those who spend their lives helping others sometimes need help themselves. No one should have to carry life's challenges alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline for support.

Tyler’s impact on this agency and the lives he touched will not be forgotten.

The Joint Community Police Partnership (JCPP) in Richfield continues its mission to strengthen communication and understanding between law enforcement and community members. By fostering trust and building meaningful relationships, the program creates safer, more connected spaces for everyone.

Active Outdoors is one of JCPP’s annual highlights, bringing together Richfield Police Officers and community partners including Partnership Academy, Three Rivers Park District, Metro Transit, Fairview, HCSO, the Minnesota Twins, and others. For the past four years, 6th , 7th , and 8th grade students from Partnership Academy have spent the day outdoors participating in fun, relationship building activities with law enforcement officers.

This year’s Active Outdoors event was held this past Tuesday at Taft Park from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Students enjoyed a variety of activities, including biking, soccer, baseball, fishing, frisbee, and an ice cream social, along with Chick fil A lunch, snacks, and refreshments.

Medicare losses due to fraud, errors, and abuse cost taxpayers about $60 billion every year. Providers might double bill Medicare for a single treatment, charge for things like a back brace you didn’t get (or need); a company might offer you a fake Medicare drug plan; or a scammer might ask you to...

Making the conscious choice to drive sober, slow down, buckle up, and stay focused can mean the difference between life and death—for you, your loved ones, and everyone else on the road. Together, we can drive Minnesota toward zero deaths.

Summer is calling, and that means epic road trips, weekend getaways, and quality time with family and friends. However, because the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are historically the most traveled—and the most dangerous days on our roads—law enforcement is stepping up patrols through the summer (youtube.com/watch?v=Lt-L4QwDRgU). Agencies will be heavily targeting the "Big Four" behaviors that contribute to the most crashes: speeding, distracted driving, driving while impaired, and not wearing a seat belt.

It’s easy to treat the daily commute or weekend drive as routine, but the reality is that the road can be unpredictable. According to safety experts, most crashes are the result of choices made behind the wheel. Last year alone, between May 26 and September 1, there were 111 fatalities on Minnesota roads—and the tragic truth is that these 111 fatalities were preventable:
• 37 deaths involved alcohol
• 31 deaths involved speeding
• 16 deaths involved a victim not wearing a seat belt
• 5 deaths involved a distracted driver

Making the conscious choice to drive sober, slow down, buckle up, and stay focused can mean the difference between life and death—for you, your loved ones, and everyone else on the road. Together, we can drive Minnesota toward zero deaths.
