Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Twenty-five years later, an entire generation of Americans has grown up without a personal memory of that day. It is our responsibility to ensure they understand not only the profound loss our nation experienced, but also the remarkable stories of bravery, compassion, unity, and service that emerged from it.

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost. We honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, military members, and ordinary citizens who demonstrated extraordinary courage. We also remember those who have suffered and died in the years since as a result of their service and exposure at Ground Zero.

Twenty-five years have passed, but our promise remains the same:

We will never forget.

• 12:58 p.m. – ATI system test
• 1:03 p.m. – Current system test

Outdoor warning sirens are designed to be heard outside, so don’t be alarmed if you hear them twice today.

As students head back to school, the Richfield Police Department reminds drivers to slow down, stay alert, and STOP for school buses when the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.

A few extra seconds of patience can help keep a child safe. Please put the phone down, watch for students at bus stops and crosswalks, and give school buses plenty of space.

This morning and early afternoon, technicians will be conducting short tests on the warning sirens located at 74/14th and 64/Vincent. The siren tests will consist of the following:

Calibration – 5 seconds
Stability Test – 15 seconds
Growl Test – 5 seconds

Today, we gathered with 25 amazing Richfield volunteers at Victory in Praise as we prepare for our biggest event of the year: Unity in the Community! Together, we packed over 500 backpacks filled with school supplies to help families get ready for the new school year. On top of that, we received nearly 400 additional backpacks donated by United Way.

Thank you to all the volunteers for showing up, sharing your time, your happiness, and your love for our community. We appreciate you! See you all in just two days!
