has decided to run for Sixth Circuit Solicitor. Currently he is the Sixth Circuit Assistant Solicitor serving Lancaster, Chester, and Fairfield Counties. Randy interned with Solicitor Doug Barfield and staff during Law School and he fell in love with this job. After graduation he was hired as Law Clerk to The Honorable Judge Brooks Goldsmith, also serving the Sixth Circuit. He joined the Solicitor
’s Office a few months before the one year Law Clerk position was to end. As Assistant Solicitor, his responsibility includes prosecuting a full spectrum of cases originating from the City of Lancaster Police Department, as well as handling Juvenile Prosecutions with the Department of Juvenile Justice, and DUI prosecutions with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. This provides him with a strong relationship with local law enforcement and he plans to continue working closely with them to fight crime and seek justice in our community. Realizing how tough and demanding this job can be he is no stranger to hard work. At age fifteen Randy started his own business, Sounds Familiar D.J. Company, which is still going strong today. During college, Newman worked full time while commuting daily from Lancaster to Columbia to earn his Bachelor’s Degree. Having had ten years of full time work experience before going to Law School, he believes in working hard and will continue to do so. Randy is a graduate of The University of South Carolina. He received an Associate’s degree from the Lancaster campus and followed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a Minor in Criminal Justice from the main campus in Columbia. He earned his Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law where he graduated with Pro Bono Honors. Randy enjoys volunteering and staying involved in various public service organizations. He is currently serving as Vice-Chairperson of the Lancaster Fatherhood Project Board of Directors, and board member for the Lancaster County Gamecock Club. He has been a Team Leader for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, and has served on multiple community investment panels for United Way. He is also a member of the Lancaster Breakfast Rotary Club. Born and raised in Lancaster, he enjoys being active in his community and his church. In 2010, he was blessed to have married his college sweetheart, Jill Deese Newman, also from Lancaster. Jill is a licensed Personal Banker with First Citizens Bank in Lancaster. They have a six month old son, Alexander. The Newman’s are members of Springdell Baptist Church, where Randy serves as Chairperson of the nominating committee and Jill teaches AWANA. Grateful for the opportunity Doug has given him to serve his community as Assistant Solicitor; he is looking forward to stepping up and running for Sixth Circuit Solicitor. Please feel free to contact Randy with any questions or comments. If you would like signs or if you would like to volunteer please let us know.
