The US and Iran signed a 14-point peace agreement this week, tentatively ending a conflict that began in February. But voices across the political spectrum are raising a key question: is this deal good for America?

Critics on the right say Iran's nuclear program remains fully unresolved, leaving a major national security threat in place. Others note that Iran used control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy chokepoint, as leverage to shape a favorable outcome. For small businesses, energy prices and supply chain stability hang in the balance on what happens next.

Where do you stand on this deal? Drop your thoughts below.

From 1945 to 1980, America did not just change politically. It changed at the counter, on the hiring floor, and at the bank.

The U.S. Small Business Administration opened in 1953 to expand access to capital. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 changed who could work and who had to be considered. The Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974 finally allowed women to obtain business loans without a husband's signature.

Small businesses were not spectators to this history. They were its stage.

: H.R.8387 - Measures Against Marxism’s Dangerous Adherents and Noxious Islamists Act

A new House bill would bar entry, deny citizenship, and authorize deportation or denaturalization of any noncitizen who is a member of or advocates for a socialist, communist, or Islamic fundamentalist party. H.R.8387, introduced by U.S. Representative Chip Roy Press Office(TX-21), would also repeal certain chain migration and fraud-related provisions in current immigration law.

Supporters say the legislation protects American workers and national security by closing loopholes that have allowed entry to people with ideologies hostile to constitutional governance. They argue that admission to the United States is a privilege, not a right, and that Congress has clear authority to set ideological criteria for entry and naturalization.

Opponents argue the bill is unconstitutionally broad, targeting immigrants for political beliefs and religious associations rather than criminal conduct. Critics warn that vague statutory definitions of "Marxism," "socialism," and "Islamic fundamentalism" could sweep in protected speech and religious practice, and that removing judicial review in deportation cases undermines due process.

The $70 billion Secure America Act is now law.

It funds ICE and Border Patrol for three years. For small businesses in construction, agriculture, hospitality, and food service, the labor and compliance implications are real.

Supporters say it levels the playing field for businesses that follow hiring rules. Critics say it will tighten labor supply in industries that already struggle to fill positions.

Happy Flag Day. On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes to represent a nation whose economy was built by farmers, merchants, craftsmen, and tradespeople - small business owners who believed in something worth fighting for.

249 years later, 33.3 million small businesses carry that legacy forward. Your business is part of what that flag stands for.

What Every American Should Know About FISA Section 702

FISA Section 702 authorizes targeted foreign intelligence collection on threats like terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. Only non-U.S. persons outside the United States can be targeted. Americans cannot.

The program is reviewed annually by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, the DOJ, and Congress.

172,000 jobs added in May, nearly double forecasts. Restaurants, bars, and healthcare led the gains. It was the best three-month stretch of hiring since early 2024.

But diesel is at $5.32 per gallon, inflation is still rising, and the Fed is expected to raise interest rates in December, which means higher borrowing costs for small-business loans.

The economy is hiring. The question is whether Main Street can hold the line on costs long enough to benefit.

What is your biggest concern heading into the second half of 2026?

By 1900, small business employed 80% of American workers.

Week 2 of our countdown covers the Building Era, the laws and leaders that gave Main Street a framework to grow.

The Federal Reserve Act stabilized credit. The GI Bill passed unanimously and launched a generation of small business owners.
And Madam C.J. Walker built an empire from scratch when the door was closed to her.

The building era built the country. Small business built the building era.

AI is flooding the job market with polished resumes and interview-ready candidates who may not have the underlying skills. And for small business owners without a dedicated HR team, that is a real and growing problem.

A new survey found that U.S. small businesses are struggling to identify qualified candidates because AI-generated resumes are overwhelming the screening process. Harvard Business
Review's analysis of more than 6,000 screening sessions confirms the trend: companies now risk selecting whoever is best at navigating the hiring process, not whoever can actually do the job.

Experts recommend shifting toward work samples, practical assessments, and judgment-based interviews rather than relying on resume screening alone.

Has AI changed how you hire? Tell us in the comments.
