Attention Richardson residents: an important opportunity is coming up for our community cats! 🐱🐾
Richardson residents are encouraged to take advantage of this free Community Cat Spay/Neuter Day on September 10. This event provides essential care for community cats while helping create healthier, safer neighborhoods. Programs like this reduce overpopulation, improve the well-being of community cats, and support a more balanced community environment.
We extend our sincere thanks to Garland Animal Shelter & Adoption Center for hosting and Friends of Rescue Animals for providing this lifesaving service completely free of charge. Their partnership and dedication continue to make a meaningful difference for animals and residents alike.

Date: Thursday, September 10, 2026
Drop-off: 7:00–9:00 a.m.
Pick-up: 3:00–5:30 p.m.
This service is open to residents of Garland, Rowlett, Sachse, Richardson, and Wylie. Proof of address is required, and cats must arrive in live humane traps only. All services are free and include spay/neuter surgery, ear tipping, pain medication, rabies and FVRCP vaccines, and flea prevention.
Space is limited, so please plan ahead to take advantage of this important opportunity.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Clear the Shelters campaign a success! With your support, 144 pets found loving homes this year. We’re incredibly grateful for every adopter, every share, and every visit that helped our animals find their families.
Although we didn’t completely clear the shelter, we still have wonderful dogs who have been waiting far too long, like Golda and Tucker, who are still hoping for their chance at a forever home. They’re incredible dogs who just need someone to take a chance on them.
Adoption fees may not be waived now, but the love and companionship you’ll gain are truly priceless. If you’re thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, we invite you to stop by and meet Golda, Tucker, and all of our other adoptable pets. Your new best friend might be waiting right here.

Keeping Animals Safe in Extreme Heat Starts With You!
This summer has been unusual, with many days climbing over 100 degrees and forecasts show these extreme temperatures will likely continue even before summer ends. With heat like this, animals are at serious risk.
To keep them safe, we want to remind everyone that wildlife should not be trapped. Trapping can put wild animals in dangerous situations, especially when temperatures are this high.
🐾 For those helping with TNR efforts, cats can be trapped and brought in, but please avoid trapping during the day or in extreme heat. Traps can heat up quickly, and animals inside cannot escape direct sun or reach water.
Choosing cooler evening or early‑morning hours helps keep both wildlife and community cats safe. 🌅💙

Join us this Saturday, August 22nd, from 8:00–9:30am at Huffhines Park for our low-cost and free pet vaccine clinic! Operation Kindness will be onsite providing free DAPP and FVRCP vaccines, plus $15 rabies, microchips, and Bordetella—see flyer for details.
This clinic is open to everyone, not just Richardson residents, and is first come, first served.
A map is attached showing the parking area behind Fire Station 4, which will be used for the event.
Dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be in carriers. We hope to see you there!
