Your place might be on a team, in a club, on the stage, in the classroom, or simply alongside the people who make you feel like you belong.

We asked some of our students: “I found my place when…”

Here’s what they had to say. 💙💛

Students in Mrs. Helstad’s APUSH class traded their textbooks for real-world artifacts as they explored the Native American and Colonial Era. To bring the era’s booming fur trade to life, Mrs. Helstad brought in a collection of fur pelts trapped right here in Barron County by her family!

The class put their local wildlife knowledge to the test with a "Name That Fur" identification challenge—and our top historian nailed a impressive 12/15 score! 🏆

Students in Plants, Animals, and You spent time at the River Doc Garden today harvesting produce. The students picked tomatoes, peppers, green beans, broccoli, and the last of the zucchini. If the weather stays warm, pepper harvests should continue for another three weeks or so. Everything was delivered straight to the high school Food Service team!

When you walk into school and realize you dressed as your coworker. No planning involved, just great minds thinking alike.

We love seeing these smiles, Mrs. Hanson and Mrs. Cappo!

The Rice Lake Area School District is excited to bring cycling into the physical education curriculum for students in grades 5–12, thanks to two grants representing approximately $30,000+ in new bikes, helmets and transportation equipment.

Through an Outride Riding for Focus grant, the district received 30 brand new Specialized Bicycles - Rockhopper mountain bikes and helmets. Outride is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing brain health through cycling and empowering people to experience the social, cognitive and emotional benefits of riding.

A $12,850 Rice Lake Education Foundation Growth Grant funded an enclosed trailer to safely store and transport the fleet, giving students opportunities to ride both at school and on local trails such as River Doc.

The new cycling unit will introduce students to bike handling skills, safety and trail riding, while giving them another way to be active outdoors and experience the physical and mental benefits of cycling.

Bringing the program to Rice Lake has been a collaborative effort involving teachers, administrators, Rice Lake Youth Cycling, Northwoods Cycle, and members of the greater Rice Lake cycling community. Social Studies teacher Tim Panasuk wrote and coordinated the grants, attended Outride's Riding for Focus training in California this summer, and worked with the district's PE staff to prepare for the program.

When the bikes arrived, Rice Lake Mountain Bike Team coaches and other volunteers gathered at the high school to assemble the fleet and get all 30 bikes ready for students.

Thank you to Outride, Specialized Bicycles, the Rice Lake Education Foundation, and everyone in our local cycling community who helped make this opportunity possible. We can't wait to get our students riding! 🚲

Varsity tennis got to celebrate some of their favorite teachers during their annual teacher appreciation night. The players each invited a teacher who has helped them along the way. JV is getting ready to host their teachers next week.

Sophia has her eyes set on making the varsity soccer team once she gets to high school. To stay on track, the 7th grader built herself a daily checklist to keep her training and schoolwork in order. Love seeing that kind of focus from our younger student-athletes.

Our high school cross country runners spent time mentoring the middle school team yesterday, working through different running stations together. Seeing both programs train side by side as one team is what it is all about.
