Tentatively, we will be conducting live-fire training this Friday at 147571 Whippoorwill Rd. in Rib Mountain. Expect fire and smoke in the vicinity of CTH NN and Whippoorwill Rd. Starting at approximately 9:00am and continuing to approximately 2:00pm.

We anticipate training scenarios to run from approximately 9:00 am until 12:00 noon, when final burndown of the structure will begin and continue until approximately 2:00pm.

If we need to cancel the event due to weather, we will announce that here at our page. Contact the fire department at 715-355-6763 and speak to the shift commander or Deputy Fire Chief if you have any questions.

🚨 Another Call, Another Reminder 🚨

At SAFER, we respond to a wide range of calls throughout our community — and this week, our crews were called out after three smoke detectors were found beeping inside a garbage can. That persistent chirping? It's exactly what alerted someone to the issue and prompted the call.

As we head into Fire Prevention Month, this is a timely reminder of how important these small devices are — and why they shouldn't be tossed in the trash when they start beeping or need to be replaced.

🔋 That chirping sound usually means a low battery — and it's a signal worth paying attention to, not ignoring or throwing away.

✅ Here's how to retire an old or beeping smoke detector the right way:

-Try replacing the battery first — that may solve the chirping
-If it's still beeping or is more than 10 years old, replace the whole unit.
-Remove the battery and recycle it separately
-Check with your local waste management facility for hazardous/e-waste disposal options

As we prepare to head into Fire Prevention Month, now is a great time to:
🔹 Test your smoke detectors
🔹 Replace batteries
🔹 Replace detectors older than 10 years
🔹 Make sure every level of your home, every bedroom, and hallways outside sleeping areas are covered

Our current orientation academy is in week 4 of 6. Our new recruits participate in 6 weeks of Fire & EMS training, accounting for approximately 40 hours and work an additional 32 hours on shift as an extra crew member during orientation. This week, the recruits conducted hose packing, hose deployment, nozzle work, search and rescue, small engines, forcible entry, victim rescue, RIT, and large area search.

Don't overload power strips! 🔌

✅ Power strips should be plugged into a wall outlet, not an another power strip or surge protector.
✅ Power strips are for low-voltage electronics.
✅ Check the power strip or wall plate. If it feels warm to the touch, unplug immediately!
