Did you know Charles M. Schulz, creator of Peanuts, spent part of his childhood in Needles? As a tribute to his upbringing, Snoopy’s brother was depicted as living in the desert just outside of Needles. 🏜️

Needles is one of the oldest cities in San Bernardino County and its history dates back to 1883, when the first railroad crossed the Colorado River from Topock, Arizona to the present-day site of Needles, which led to the town’s formation. The town was named after “The Needles,” a distinctive group of rock pinnacles and mountain peaks in Mohave County, Arizona.

As the railroad industry expanded, the railroad company also built a hotel, car sheds, shops and a roundhouse. Needles became the largest port on the river above Yuma, Arizona, and was a regular stop for the Santa Fe Railroad. It also served as an icing station for fruits and vegetables shipped east from California’s fields and orchards. Needles was officially incorporated on Oct. 30, 1913. By the 1920s, it had also become a popular stop for travelers along Route 66.

We know the moms on the farm and ranch are the literal backbone, hitch pin, baling twine, and cable tie - keeping everything together.

Today we celebrate them and thank them for the warm meals, clean clothes, and hugs when we didn’t even know we needed one.

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who keep our farms, ranches, and families running strong. We love and appreciate you today and every day.
