This week, our volunteers participated in a refresher training on pump operations. They reviewed key topics such as water supply, jet siphoning, hose relay, and the pump panels. We appreciate the dedication of all members to enhance their skills and better serve the community.

This past Sunday was the Rhinelander Community Scholarship Awards Ceremony. Fire Chief Brian Gehrig & Nancy Gehrig awarded Brianna Young the $500 Pine Lake Firefighters Department Auxiliary Scholarship. We have awarded this Scholarship for 25+ years to a student that serves for a Volunteer Fire Department or whom has a family member affiliated with a Community Volunteer Fire Department. Brianna is majoring in psychology at Penn State University and has also volunteered for the Crescent Vol. Fire Dept. Congratulations Bri

Today North Star came to perform annual inspections and pump testing of our fleet. This company provides a great on site service for emergency apparatus.

This week, members received training on utilizing a Rapid Intervention Team (R.I.T.) pack system, which provides supplementary breathing air in emergencies encountered by firefighters. Furthermore, they reviewed the standard 'MAYDAY' protocol for requesting assistance via radio.

We thank Pelican Fire & Rescue for letting us borrow a pack for us to train with. Pelican Fire is automatically dispatched for our structure fire calls to provide a R.I.T. team.

To our local residents, we will notice an increase of traffic due to a construction project of highway 51 between highway 8 and county road L. Local travel times are expected to increase during this project.

Due to this, we have implemented plans if an unfortunate event shall happen on the highway. All our neighboring departments will help eachother and resources will be called for early. We shall continue to adapt to the various changes of our environment to provide quality emergency services.

For the safety of everyone, our department will continue to follow our road closure policy. If an unfortunate event happens, our volunteers prioritize the event/person needing help over traffic. We ask for patience during these times knowing that responders will get traffic flowing when possible.

As your volunteer professionals, we relay on our education, training, and experience to guide our decisions.
