Idaho has always been about standing strong and living true. Pride is a celebration of that same courage. Happy Pride!

Every June, there's a lot of debate and controversy about Pride Month for supposedly taking a whole month to itself while other causes apparently get little to no attention (such as military veterans and mental health illnesses).

I just wanted to make sure y'all are aware that the LGBTQ+ community is very much aware of all other causes that deserve attention and support. Never is Pride Month intended or designed to belittle and dehumanize them.

I celebrate and recognize Pride each year because it's the one time of the year where LGBTQ+ people are given genuine awareness for the challenges and persecutions they suffer each year.

For me, there are two other June-related causes that I'm honoring and being mindful of:
- Men's Health/Mental Health Month.
- PTSD Awareness Month.

I'm not going to go into detail about it again, but I've posted before about past mental health struggles that I've had (for me, it's a little ironic that none of them were about my bisexuality; contrary to popular belief, not every LGBTQ+ person is LGBTQ+ because they're "confused" or "mentally ill").
So advocating for adequate mental health resources for men is absolutely something that I do.

I have a late grandfather on my father's side who served a tour in Vietnam in the early 70's, and that experience really messed with him. Thankfully, by the time I was born, he was able to mostly recover mentally, but it rocked his world for a very long time after he returned home.
That's why I also celebrate Military holidays such as Flag Day and the birthdays of the branches of the military.

I make posts about the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month because it's obviously som@ething personal for me. But it's not the only awareness/cause that I honor and observe each June.

I apologize that this is nearly a week late; life got SUPER busy for me this past week, so I didn't have time for this post until now.

Every single American who has ever died in combat while wearing the uniform (from the American Revolution to the War in Afghanistan), in my humble opinion, has earned a place in heaven.

I always like to say this: Take a war like Vietnam or Afghanistan or Korea or even World War I. None of them were fought on American soil, yet countless American soldiers perished in them, or got life-altering injuries in them (physical and mental).
The politics behind America's entry into each of those wars was vastly different each time. Sometimes, the government had the full support and backing of the American public for entering that other; other times, the public tore itself apart fighting over whether or not we should have been there at all (like the Vietnam War).
Yet each time, many Americans answered the call to serve in the military (some enthusiastically, sometimes very reluctantly; many were drafted and thus not given a choice other than "go or be punished"). Of those that made it back home, some were welcomed as heroes, and some were literally spat upon by their own fellow citizens.
Yet they fought like hell for their country, in a foreign land.
I like to think that, among other things, they still serve as a deterrent to enemies of America who wish to attack us. If we're willing to come over to your land and fight like dogs, imagine what we'll do if you try to come over to our turf and detonate an IED.

Many of these American soldiers were able to return home.
Many were not.
Memorial Day honors and remembers those who were never able to return home.

I'm happy to announce that I've been awarded the 2026 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction.

I know that we can defend our Second Amendment rights AND greatly decrease gun-related death and violence in our country and state.

From Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund: "Please note, the Gun Sense Candidate distinction is not an endorsement from Moms Demand Action or Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and should not be represented as such. Instead, it is a signal to our supporters, volunteers and voters across the country that a candidate advocates for gun violence prevention and will govern with gun safety in mind."

THE RESULTS ARE IN!!

I'm happy to announce that I'm officially the Democratic Nominee for Idaho State Senate from Legislative District #34 (a.k.a. Madison County).

I'm proud to announce that I received 255 votes in the primary.

Yes, I was unopposed for the nomination, but it was still critical for me to rack up as many votes in the primary as possible.
And I'm honestly ecstatic beyond description that I got 255 votes!

To those who voted for me, thank you; you put your trust in me, and I fully intend and plan to make it worth it.

In Legislative District #34/Madison County, there are 929 registered Democrats and 4,662 registered Unaffiliateds.

For yesterday's primary, Idaho voters of any party registration were allowed to select and cast a Democratic primary ballot (and they didn't have to change their party registration in order to do so).
So I'm not certain how many Unaffiliated-, Republican-, Libertarian-, and Constitution-registered voters voted for me in yesterday's primary. I should know in a few weeks when the Idaho Democratic Party calculates how many Idaho voters selected and cast a Democratic primary ballot yesterday (state law allows political parties to access that kind of data and run calculations).
It is safe to say, based on past Idaho Democratic voting patterns, that the majority of the votes I received yesterday were from registered Democrats.
With 255 primary votes, and 929 registered Democrats, the Democratic primary in Legislative District #34/Madison County had a 27.45% turnout for my race.

Overall, 255 Madison County voters chose me yesterday to represent the Democratic Party for this race going into November.
And I'm pretty flipping honored and humbled.
