LearningRx Reston

LearningRx Reston LearningRx works with kids and adults, improving the core cognitive skills the brain uses to think,

When memory, attention, reading, or comprehension skills are weak, learning and life can be harder than they need to be for children and adults. At LearningRx, our brain training programs target and train these weak skills using a series of intense (but fun!) mental exercises that work on the way the brain learns, thinks, remembers, and performs. Clients work one-on-one with their own personal brain trainer, which is a big part of what makes us so unique and our results so effective.

Why can't kids keep up with their stuff?? 😮‍💨😑

If you're tired of constantly re-buying school supplies that got misplaced, hearing "Mom, have you seen [fill in the blank]?", or being the external support system that makes sure no one is forgetting anything...

You're not the only one.

Yes, it's normal for kids to lose things. Yes, organization takes time to learn and practice.

But how can you tell if being so disorganized could be a sign of something more?

Often kids with ADHD, executive function weaknesses, working memory or attention struggles, or other cognitive deficits have trouble with organizing and keeping up with their stuff.

This isn't because they're lazy or not trying.
It's often because their cognitive weaknesses make it harder to keep up.

At LearningRx, we help parents and students understand root cause reasons for learning challenges like this. When learning is hard, it's almost always because of weak cognitive skills. We can assess skill strengths and weaknesses to create a unique cognitive profile.

It's like a thumbprint that shows your unique abilities and struggles.

From there, we can train weak skills through our one-on-one programs that engage and build areas like attention, working memory, reasoning, and more.

👉If you're tired of going behind your child every single day to make sure nothing got dropped, give us a call. We can help you figure out the right next step to make learning easier, faster, and better.

Tired of homework meltdowns? Figuring out THIS piece could help smooth things over.

Once they figure out which approach is more effective, they'll be set up to prioritize, plan, and execute with more ease (and maybe even a little less resistance 😉)

"We decided to try LearningRx because our son was struggling with dyslexia, attention, memory, and processing. We had tried other things, but it felt like we were just putting a Band-Aid on the problem instead of fixing what was causing it.

Since starting LearningRx, we’ve seen a big difference.

He’s more confident, able to stay on task for longer periods of time, and doesn’t get as frustrated when he’s learning something new.

We’ve noticed changes at school and at home, and it’s been so nice to watch him start believing in himself again."

👏👏This is what it's all about! We're here for the cognitive improvements, but the real-life changes our families share with us? Nothing beats it.

*Results from a past client; individual outcomes can vary, but ask us about our research and results—we'd love to share more about what your family could expect!

Lost another water bottle this week? 🧢👟 If your kid seems to lose everything (jackets, homework, you name it) it might not be carelessness. It could be a brain skill that needs a little extra support. Here's what's normal, what's not, and what you can actually do about it 👇

👍👍Double thumbs up for some hard brain work in our center! We love watching students tackle challenges that used to feel impossible. Getting better at learning doesn't mean just "trying harder" or "focusing more."

It takes targeted, intense, and personalized support to make real changes in how the brain thinks and learns.

It's easy to do as parents...

"We picked the wrong curriculum..."
"We didn't practice enough..."
"What if we did something wrong?"
"Why doesn't he get it?"

The doubts, worry, and self-blame creep in, and we wonder where things went wrong.

Hear this today: take a deep breath. It's not too late. And you've likely done everything you can for your child... their brain may just not be processing like it should be.

At LearningRx, we help peel back the layers so you can understand what's happening at a brain-skill level that's making reading, math, and learning so hard. Once you get clarity on that, the path forward can be so much clearer.

👉You'll have real answers about the kind of help your child actually needs in order to learn easier, faster, and better.

A growth mindset is what helps you bounce back from failure and tackle new challenges (even if you're not sure you can do it). It's an important way to frame trying new things: I might not be able to (yet), but I can try my best, even if I'm frustrated.

If your child shuts down at the moment of frustration or struggles when it's time to try something new, these strategies might be a helpful way to work growth mindset conversations into your daily life: https://shorturl.at/Lm8BF

Meltdowns. Shutting down. Avoidance. These are all natural responses to frustration, and it takes conscious effort to teach our kids a different way.

Frustration is a part of life that we all deal with—but we still need to get the job done. Here are some of the ways we can model the power of "and" to our kids when things get hard or overwhelming.

You can be frustrated, and you can choose to do it anyway.
You can be frustrated, and you can ask for help.
You can be frustrated, and you can make a plan to get it done.

Proactively giving our kids options and tools for when that frustration starts to rise is so important so they can know what better ways to handle that feeling might be.

It's a common assumption that gifted kids, because they're “advanced" academically or in their reasoning abilities, should also be more emotionally equipped to handle setbacks. But research actually points the other way.

Asynchronous development, heightened emotional intensity, and gaps in cognitive skills can all make it harder for gifted kids to handle frustration when it does come. Here are some strategies that help: https://shorturl.at/QZZZj

Does your gifted child feel things intensely and shut down at the first sign of struggle? Discover 5 ways to build frustration tolerance.
