We are saddened to hear about the passing of William "Bill" Pool, who spoke at the Foundation's lunch during the Missouri Cherry Blossom Festival in Marshfield, MO in 2024.

According to the obituary, Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and honorably served his country during a pivotal time in our nation’s history. During WWII, he received the Bronze Star and was a wounded POW. Bill was the last known surviving son of an American Civil War veteran, Charles Parker Pool, who fought for the Union Army in the 6th West Virginia Volunteers.

Summer campers are discovering the stories of the people who shaped this land, from Ni-u-kon-ska (Osage) communities to early 1800s settlers and Civil War soldiers.

Introducing young people to history and inspiring the next generation of park stewards are among the most important ways the Foundation supports Wilson's Creek National Battlefield. Through hands-on learning experiences like these, campers connect with the past while helping preserve its legacy for the future. Clever R-V School
