The Rensselaer City Police Department will be participating in the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee’s “Buckle Up New York / Click It or Ticket” high-visibility enforcement campaign from May 18 through May 31, 2026.
This campaign is a statewide, zero-tolerance enforcement effort. The purpose of the seat belt initiative is to increase seat belt and child safety seat use, which remains one of the most effective ways to reduce crash-related injuries and fatalities.

City of Rensselaer Receives $10 Million From DRI

Rensselaer Mayor John DeFrancesco said, "On behalf of Rensselaer, I want to thank Governor Kathy Hochul, NYS Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley, and the Capital Region Economic Development Council for this opportunity.

It's no secret that Rensselaer is home to one of the busiest Amtrak train stations in America - our station sees over 1 million people each year. The Downtown Revitalization Initiative award of $10 million is exactly what Rensselaer needs to take the next step in becoming one of the best small cities in upstate New York.

There are others to thank too. Assemblymember John McDonald has been with us every step of the way. Our Planning Department staff are among the best in the region. And our Strategic Planning Committee members provided the necessary energy to carry this idea from start to finish.

Today is a great day for Rensselaer.
