Charlie (name changed for confidentiality) is more than just a case file.

When he came to the court's attention as a child, Charlie was moved between multiple family members, and carried the anger and uncertainty that came with an unstable start in life. After several placements, it became clear that he needed more support than a traditional home could provide, and he was placed in a residential facility.

During that time, two people showed up for Charlie consistently: his CASA volunteer and his Family Case Manager. They made the effort to visit him regularly, building trust and forming a bond that became a steady presence in his life.
Over time, progress was made. Charlie began to heal, and eventually, the case reached the point everyone had been working toward—reunification with his parent, something Charlie had always longed for.

On the day his case officially closed, the court celebrated with a welcome home party.

Today, Charlie is thriving. Charlie has chosen to keep in touch with his CASA volunteer, calling to share updates about his life. He’s introduced her to his friends (over the phone), is doing well in school, and—most importantly—is happy at home.

Charlie spent 1,003 days in the foster care system. Through it all, his CASA volunteer stood by his side, advocating for him every step of the way.

Because of that support, Charlie’s story has a happy ending.

His story is a reminder: every child is more than just a file.
