The Rensselaer City Police Department will be participating in the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee’s “Buckle Up New York / Click It or Ticket” high-visibility enforcement campaign from May 18 through May 31, 2026.
This campaign is a statewide, zero-tolerance enforcement effort. The purpose of the seat belt initiative is to increase seat belt and child safety seat use, which remains one of the most effective ways to reduce crash-related injuries and fatalities.

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, The Rensselaer Police department had the honor of hosting Carry The Load for a portion of their Memorial May Relay 2026. We had a chance to honor our Veterans, First Responders, and families for the sacrifices they made for our great country. This event brought families, friends, neighbors and strangers together to honor and remember loved ones through stories and photos. This is one of our favorite events every year because it means so much to so many. Thank you to all who attended and joined us for our 5 mile walk through our great little city. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves, we sure did.

Special thanks to Carry The Load, Aubree Spence for the outstanding performance of the National Anthem, the Frankoski Family, the Grassia Family, the Pratt Family, Mayor John DeFrancesco, Senator Jake Ashby, Assemblymember John McDonald, Steve McLaughlin - Rensselaer County Executive, Bishop Dr. Normal Macklin - Rensselaer Police Chaplain, Gerald O'Neil Post #1683 and Ladies Auxiliary, City of Rensselaer Fire Department, East Greenbush Police Department, Town of Schodack Police Department, City of Rensselaer Police Officer's Union Inc., Zone 5 Law Enforcement Training Academy Inc., Rensselaer Police Community Engagement Unit, all who attended, and especially those who serve and sacrifice every single day.

We hope to see you all again next year!!

God Bless America!
