Public Safety Operations in Place for Hyner Challenge
Clinton County, PA – April 18, 2026 — The Clinton County Department of Emergency Services (DES), in coordination with local Emergency Responders, will be supporting public safety operations for the annual Hyner Challenge trail race on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The Hyner Challenge brings a large number of participants and spectators to the Hyner View and surrounding trail system. Due to the remote and rugged terrain, a comprehensive public safety plan has been developed to ensure a coordinated and efficient emergency response capability throughout the duration of the event.
Emergency services resources assigned to the event include:
Fire/EMS units staged at key access points and the start/finish area
Response teams positioned throughout the course (UTV/ATV)
Fire and rescue personnel for technical and wilderness response
A unified command structure operating from the on-site command post
Clinton County’s 9-1-1 Communications Center will provide dispatch and coordination support for all emergency incidents during the event. Communications will operate on the County’s P25 radio system to ensure interoperability between responders.
Participants and spectators are reminded:
Cellular service may be limited in remote areas
Follow all posted signage and instructions from event staff and emergency personnel
In the event of an emergency, notify the nearest race official or call 9-1-1 if able
Be prepared for changing weather and trail conditions
Motorists traveling in the Hyner and surrounding areas should expect increased traffic and possible delays. Drivers are asked to use caution and remain alert for pedestrians and emergency vehicles operating in the area.
“This event requires a coordinated effort from multiple agencies to ensure the safety of everyone involved,” said the Clinton County Department of Emergency Services. “We appreciate the cooperation of participants, spectators, and the public as we support this annual event.”
