We need actual dedicated evacuation centers going forward. But this should be a wake up call to the community that these casinos and hotels aren’t here for their communities yet expect us to be there for them.
This should also be a wake up call to our state, local and federal officials that we need better city planning, better fire fighting resources and support, and we need to be taking fire season and climate change/the environment seriously. We are the driest state and fastest warming city in the country, enough playing around with people’s lives. It’s time to actually take this seriously, I was born and raised here, I’m 27 years old and fire season has only gotten worse and worse every summer.
Every single one of our political representatives needs to start talking about fire season, we need solutions and better planning and policies.
« We are fire evacuees … I saw your post related to evacuees having to pay a 100 dollar deposit … all the main hotels were full the smaller ones started taking advantage of all the people looking for a place to lay their heads. Got told the only hotel that had rooms was Whitney Peak hotel … I called them and told them we were fire evacuees looking for a room they tried to offer us one for 550.00 for a victim of a fire that may be losing their home and everything in it …this is inhumane to treat neighbors this way. Praying for anyone that couldnt find somewhere to go last night… » this has been especially difficult for those evacuating with limited means, transportation and not wanting to separate from their pets …
