Northern Nevada artists Saurabh Chawal and Clayton Posey’s video artwork, “Thin Air” is now on view at the Canyon Flats Video Wall.

“Thin Air” is an experimental narrative drone short filmed in Washoe Valley, Nevada. The short follows a poem of perseverance and hope narrated over our protagonist’s journey through the field. The concept behind the work is a visual representation of the connection between the people and the land of Washoe county. Filmed in 2025, this is director’s Clayton Posey and Saurabh Chawla’s first short film created with aerial footage captured with drones.

The Canyon Flats building is located at 661 N Center St, Reno, NV 89503. The video wall is located on the exterior side of the building on Virginia St. and is on a loop and available for viewing 24/7.

The City of Reno is about to begin a new public art project at the soon-to-be constructed roundabout at West 4th Street and Summit Ridge Drive. We are looking for Reno citizens 18+ to serve on the volunteer public art task force that will help guide the project!
The task force members will attend about 3 hybrid public meetings tailored to their schedules to help create the Call for Artists guidelines, review applications, and help select the project. We want to see more community participation from our local arts lovers and artists; prior experience is not required.

Two new exhibitions are now on view at the McKinley Arts and
Culture Center Galleries from June 1 – July 6. The galleries are open to the public Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Damonte Ranch High School presents two groups of student
artwork coming together for one wonderful show. "Sentimental" is an
exhibit that showcases the 2-D artwork of students in Pilar Biller’s class. In
their work, these artists explored topics and ideas that inspired emotional
response and connection. "Life in our Hands" exhibits the 3-D artwork
of students in Sharron Schiavone's class. These artists explore the breath of
creation through hand-built and wheel-thrown ceramic pieces. On this topic
Schiavone states, “Our ceramic pieces show our individual passions,
personalities, and creativity.”

“Colors of Work”, curated by Arts for All Nevada, is an
inspiring exhibition featuring artwork by student-intern artists from the
Transition Academy, which operates through the Washoe County School District.
The artists displayed in this exhibition are all young adults with intellectual
and cognitive disabilities who are actively preparing their next steps through
vocational training, career exploration, and workplace readiness. Each artwork
offers a unique perspective on livelihood: what motivates them, what challenges
them, and what brings them pride. Colors of Work is both a
celebration of creativity and a powerful expression of identity, purpose, and
independence.

New mural alert! Local Reno area artist Canyon Webb’s four-sided mural “Monsters at the Park” next to the pond at Idlewild Park reflects the artists’ interpretation of their childhood experiences playing at the park.

Webb says: “Idlewild Park is the perfect place to leave a landmark. As a kid I remember multiple. One being the big iron red rocket on the playground. Being bullied in it and scared of the height. In each level of the rocket sat a terrified child, or injured, holding on to iron bars. As an adult it’s hilarious to revisit these formative memories and design stuff that I know other kids from Reno remember. I chose different aspects of the park, new and old that always stood out to me. The rose garden, the ponds and train, the playgrounds, and the skatepark. I wanted to create an alternate universe where monsters and people coexist in these familiar spaces. My goal was to create fantastical landscapes, and childish wonder into the 4 walls that represent each place in the park. It’s amazing to bring my daughter to Idlewild now and watch future kids enjoy my monster landmark.”

Call for Artists! The City of Reno is accepting qualifications from artists/artist teams with prior public art experience, specifically mid-scale functional or way-finding sculptural work, for a unique, one-of-a-kind, exterior public art installation at Cyan Park. This opportunity is open to artists living and working in the western states of Nevada, Arizona, California, Idaho, Oregon, or Utah who have experience in the design, fabrication, and installation of mid-scale sculptures in outdoor environments.

The City of Reno is about to begin a new public art project at McAlinden Park. We are looking for community members to tell us more about who they are, how they enjoy the park, and what type of art they like to help guide the project. There will be future opportunities to engage in the design making process as the project moves forward over the next year.
