It is such an honor to be in Elko today for the Dedication Ceremony of the National Elko Cemetery. This is such an important addition to the veterans community in Elko. This starts a new chapter here providing a respectful, dignified, honorable veterans cemetery close to home. Nice work and congratulations to all who made this possible.

On August 30, 2021, the United States concluded its military mission in Afghanistan, bringing to a close nearly two decades of service, sacrifice, and commitment.

Today, we honor the courage of the service members, veterans, Gold Star Families, diplomats, and civilians who served during America's longest war. We remember those who gave their lives, those who returned carrying the visible and invisible wounds of war, and the families who stood beside them every step of the way.

Their dedication, resilience, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We remain committed to supporting all who served and preserving the legacy of their service.
