Wildfire season is close, and staying prepared is crucial. Create defensible space around your home, prepare an emergency kit, and know your evacuation routes. Stay informed about wildfire activity, and check your emergency kit regularly. If a wildfire is near, evacuate immediately if advised, and keep doors and windows closed. After a wildfire, check for hot spots and avoid damaged power lines. Recovery is a community effort. Stay safe and help prevent tragedies by being prepared!

After nearly 4 decades in the fire service, TMFR Fire Management Officer Greg Jackson retired this week. Greg has had a multifaceted fire & rescue service career serving in a variety of front line and leadership roles and has represented a number of fire and rescue agencies throughout northern Nevada.

Greg is a true professional and an inspiring individual whose positivity and smile is contagious. Thank you for your public service and for making a difference in our community and throughout our state. We wish him and his family the very best in this next chapter of his life. 🚒We are proud to support the Silver State Women in Fire this weekend in Carson City. It was inspiring to see so many determined, hardworking women stepping forward to challenge themselves and pursue a career in the fire service.

The future of firefighting is stronger when it reflects the communities we serve. These women demonstrated courage, resilience, teamwork, and a commitment to service, qualities that define the very best of our profession.

🇺🇸Today, we said farewell to Fire Captain Steve Walker. After 25 years of service, Captain Walker took his last ride in the Fire Engine. Steve began his fire service career in 1999 as a Fernley Volunteer Firefighter. His fire service experience has taken him to the Hawthorne Army Depot and Idaho Falls. He has also served as a seasonal firefighter with the Nevada Division of Forestry and the North Lyon Fire Protection District. Captain Walker has been with Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue since 2012.🚒

He is an exemplary firefighter, highly respected, a true leader, and a public servant. We honor Captain Walker and his wonderful family and wish them the very best in life.🙏🏼

🇺🇸On Wednesday, June 3, Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue (TMFR) will partner with Nevada’s Second Judicial District Court to commemorate America’s 250th birthday during a community celebration at the Washoe County Courthouse.

Since January this year, the District Court has hosted monthly events honoring the nation’s Semiquincentennial, with a different local public agency leading each celebration. TMFR was selected to host the June program.

The celebration will begin at 8 a.m. on the steps of the Washoe County Courthouse, located at 117 S. Virginia Street in Reno, and will feature the national anthem sung by the Depoali Middle School Choir, concluding with “Home Means Nevada”.

Local historian and author David Woodruff will portray renowned architect Frederic DeLongchamps, who designed the Washoe County Courthouse in 1910.

TMFR firefighters will also display several pieces of firefighting apparatus during the event, including the agency’s ladder truck.

➤ Top causes: roadside equipment and vehicles, fi****ms and explosives, debris burning

Lightning will always be part of Nevada's fire story. Human-caused starts don't have to be.

Every secured trailer chain, checked tire, drowned campfire, and verified restriction is a fire that doesn't happen. A community that stays whole. A firefighter who stays home. A landscape that stays standing for next season.

Prevention works. And it starts with each of us. Make 2026 different.
