United Way of Venango and Titusville Region works to unify resources to create opportunities for our community to thrive. As an Impact organization, United Way identifies the most critical health, education, and income needs of our residents and creates innovative solutions that lead to a stronger and more resilient community. When kids are well-fed, well-rested, and getting the support they need,

they are far more likely to succeed in school. That's why we're on a mission to remove barriers to learning and ensure families have the stability to achieve financial growth. We're on a mission to crush poverty. Won't you join us?

Our Spotlight series is a chance to introduce our community to people who are an integral part of the United Way of Venango and Titusville Region and its success. This week's spotlight features our Board Chair Greg Piercy!

🔸How long have you been a Board Member with United Way? I've served on the United Way board for 7 years.

🔸Why did you join the board? I was at a point in my life where I had more time to share with a charitable organization and felt that my experience would be a benefit to UWVTR. The programs that it supports are vital to our region, specifically health, income and education. All three of which are critical areas that will help individuals and families to lead better lives and become self-sustaining members of the community.

🔸What is one of your favorite things about serving on the board? It would be difficult to identify a single element of serving on the board, but feeling as though I am helping to make decisions that will have a long term positive impact on the community that I live in is probably at the top.

🔸If you could share one thing about the United Way you feel people don’t know enough about, what would that be? Over the past couple of years the United Way has focused on becoming a center for people to find aid for just about any need they may have, even if it's a program that UWVTR does not specifically support, we direct people to the program that best fits their needs. I am particularly proud of the ALICE program, which may not get as much recognition as it deserves.

Greg has not only served the local community through volunteering his time, but has served his country in the US Navy and is a Veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His leadership skills and generosity can be found woven through many of United Way's programming and events. Greg also enjoys reading although he doesn't have a favorite type, but will read anything that has an interesting story.

Each member of the United Way team plays a vital role in helping us deliver meaningful programs and services throughout our local community. Thank you, Greg, for your continued dedication, leadership, and support as Board Chair of UWVTR.

As a United Way supporter do you ever wonder where your donations go?

We are proud to keep your dollars local and support programs and partners such as the David L. Weber Memorial Community Garden in Titusville which is FREE and open to the public 24/7 during the growing season. Not only does it offer fresh produce, but we also host a variety of classes and events at the garden. Most recently we kicked off the summer season with our first kids night where the children learned about all the things they can grow and have in their garden as well as plant their own veggies and flowers to take home.

By supporting the United Way you are part of the impact and change! United is the Way to thriving communities. To learn more visit our website at unitedwayvtr.org
