At last week's Champions of Care celebration, 36 REMSA Health employees were honored for clinical excellence, exceptional service, and lifetime achievement, and eight Care Flight crew members officially earned their wings. From Lifetime Achievement honorees Stephanie Kruse and Dr. Joseph Ryan, to every paramedic, dispatcher, nurse, and support professional recognized on stage, it was a night worth celebrating for a team that earns it every single day.

Congratulations to all of this year's honorees. We are proud to work alongside each and every one of you.💙

This event is for the people who show up when it matters most. At this year's Champions of Care event, 36 awards were presented to the paramedics, EMTs, nurses, dispatchers, mechanics, and support professionals who show up for Washoe County every single day. The evening also marked two major milestones: 40 years of REMSA Health and 45 years of Care Flight. Congratulations to everyone honored, including those who earned their Care Flight wings.

In Nevada’s rural and frontier environments, it takes all of us working together to reach patients quickly, provide lifesaving care, and get them where they need to go when it matters most.⚕️

Care Flight, in partnership with Renown Health and Vitalant, has launched a Blood Stewardship Program that brings trauma-level care directly to patients in flight.

Having blood on board is critical, but how it is cared for matters just as much. This program was built with a focus on stewardship, ensuring every unit is handled with purpose, accountability, and respect for the community members who made the donation possible. Any unused blood is carefully managed and returned in a usable state when it is not needed, helping preserve this vital resource for another patient.

By equipping our aircraft with whole blood, Care Flight clinicians can begin life-saving transfusions during transport when minutes matter most, especially for patients in rural communities facing longer transport times.

This is more than a blood-carrying program. It is a commitment to extending care beyond hospital walls while honoring every donation. 💙

On International Search and Rescue Dog Day, we’re proud to recognize the incredible search and rescue dogs and their handlers who work and train tirelessly to help keep our communities safe. These teams show unmatched dedication, courage, and teamwork in every mission. 🐾

They’re also some of our favorite passengers! Care Flight trains yearly with our community’s avalanche rescue dogs so they are acclimated to helicopter operations and trained to fly to the scene of an incident, expediting search efforts when every second matters.

Care Flight Spotlight: Tony Fagundes, A&P

Tony has been a valued member of our Care Flight team as an aircraft mechanic since 1998. After losing his dad in a helicopter crash caused by a maintenance issue, Tony says it was his calling to make sure every aircraft is safe to fly. From rebuilding a Bell 47 as a kid to an apprenticeship at Skydance Helicopters, earning his A&P, and gaining experience in utility, firefighting, and rebuilds, his path has been built on dedication and purpose.

When he’s not in the hangar, you’ll find him racing motocross with his son, flying RC helicopters, or crabbing in Oregon with his wiener dogs nearby! 🐾

Behind every safe Care Flight transport is a dedicated team member like Tony. Thank you for all you do, and for 28 years of exceptional service to our community! 🩵
