On Friday, October 10th, 2025, at the request of area fire chiefs, the Jasper County Board of Commissioners extended the October 3rd, 2025, local declaration of emergency and county-wide ban on open burning, for another seven days, expiring on Friday, October 17th, 2025.

In response to a request from local Fire Chiefs, the Jasper County Board of Commissioners has declared a local State of Emergency and enacted a county-wide ban on open burning for a period of seven days.

This Declaration and Order shall remain in effect for seven days and may be extended only by action of the Board of Commissioners during a special meeting that is open to the public.

The burn ban does not prohibit bonfires, recreational fires, and portable outdoor fireplaces. State law regulations remain in place:
a. Bonfires: a bonfire shall not be conducted within 50 feet of a structure or combustible material unless the fire is contained in a barbecue pit. Conditions which could cause a fire to spread within 25 feet of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition.
b. Recreational Fires: recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure of combustible material. Conditions which could cause a fire to spread within 25 feet of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition.
c. Portable Outdoor Fireplaces: portable outdoor fireplaces, except those used at one- and two-family dwellings, shall be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and shall not be operated within 15 feet of a structure or combustible material.
