Williamsburg Elementary School

Williamsburg Elementary School Williamsburg Elementary is a rural, community school in the southeastern corner of Rockingham County. Also housed in the building is one Head Start classroom.

There are approximately 501 students in grades kindergarten through fifth. In addition, there is one pre-school classroom funded by Rockingham County Schools. As a Title I school, Williamsburg receives additional federal funds to provide extra instructional support for the students. This funding makes it possible to reduce class size in many of the grade levels which helps the students receive mor

e individualized assistance. When the new building opened in 2003, personnel from many different schools came together to form the new Williamsburg School. These dedicated, well-qualified individuals work together to provide a stable learning environment for the children of Williamsburg School.

Good afternoon Williamsburg Families,

Please see the attached letter from the Rockingham County Division of Public Health, which provides helpful tips for keeping children safe when interacting with wildlife and avoiding potential exposure to rabid animals.

Thank you for taking a moment to review this important information and for helping us keep our students safe.

Thank you!

3rd Grade Parents: Please review this message.

This is Principal Ziglar with a reminder that the Beginning-of-Grade 3 Reading Test will take place tomorrow. (3rd graders only)

As a school, you will see a concentrated focus on ensuring that our students are reading at or above grade level and continuing to make progress toward reading proficiency.

Please help by ensuring your child arrives at school on time, is well-rested, and ready to do their best! Attendance is especially important on testing days, so please make every effort for your child to be at school and on time.

Good evening, Williamsburg families! This is Principal Ziglar with your weekly updates.

There will be no school on Monday, 9/7, in observance of Labor Day. School will resume on Tuesday, 9/8.

Kindergarten Color Days
Beginning Tuesday, 9/8, we will be supporting our Kindergarten students as they learn their colors by wearing a specific color each day:

Tuesday: Wear Red ❤️
Wednesday: Wear Blue 💙
Thursday: Wear Yellow 💛
Friday: Wear Green 💚 or Red, White & Blue in observance of 9/11.

📚 Battle of the Books
Any 4th or 5th grade student interested in learning more about Battle of the Books should stay after school this Thursday until 3:45 p.m. Permission slips were sent home last week for students who plan to stay.

👥 Volunteers & Field Trip Chaperones
If you plan to volunteer or chaperone a field trip, you will need to complete a background check. We encourage you to complete your background check now. Background checks are valid for two years and cover all students you have at Williamsburg.

If you plan to chaperone a field trip, you must also attend Chaperone Training, the first of which will be offered after our Partnering with Purpose event on 9/17. Future chaperone training sessions will be scheduled at a later date.

🍫 Candy Bar Fundraiser
The sale officially begins on September 10. We have had great success with our pre-sale!

The prize list will come home on Wednesday. The prize list will also include a permission slip for anyone who missed receiving one the first time.

Bus riders: Chocolate must be picked up from the front office during the school day between 7:20 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Candy can not be taken home on the bus.

Candy money should be sent to school with your child in the envelope provided so their teacher can collect it, or you may bring it directly to the front office.

🍎 Child Nutrition Updates
All RCS students can eat breakfast and lunch for free.

Because we receive federal funds for our child nutrition program, outside food (such as McDonald’s nuggets) cannot be sent in a bag or container that advertises the restaurant. Please place these items in another bag or container.

Thank you for your cooperation with this requirement.

🚗 Arrival & Dismissal Updates
Our doors open at 7:20 a.m. for student drop-off.

All students, with the exception of Pre-K, should be dropped off in the car rider line this week. Please do not walk students across unless you need to come into the school.
Head Start families should park in the bus lot and walk their student around to their classroom’s outside door.
Please do not park and walk your child across the cross-walk. They should be dropped off in the car rider line.
To the extent possible, please have your student enter and exit the vehicle from the sidewalk side.
Please make sure your child is ready to exit the vehicle when you arrive at school in the morning.
Please do not pass cars in the drop-off line unless directed to do so by a staff member.
Please maintain a safe, slow speed while on campus.
In the afternoon, we do not allow student check-outs after 2:15 p.m.
Please do not double-line until you turn into our upper parking lot. Double-lining near the highway makes using the left-turn lane out of school dangerous.
If you need to buckle your student or make an adjustment to their seating arrangement, please pull into the parking lot rather than stopping in the car rider line.
Please make sure your car rider tag is displayed when picking up your student.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to keep our students safe during arrival and dismissal.

🚌 Bus Rider Updates
Please check the bus app to see when your student's bus is nearby.

Parents, please make sure you are at the bus stop with your student in the morning and waiting for your student at the stop in the afternoon.

Good afternoon Wildcat families! Please take a moment to review some reminders regarding our morning arrival procedures and afternoon dismissal procedures for car riders.

Morning Arrival

Please make sure you wrap your car line through the upper parking lot. I know there may not be any cars there when you arrive, but when we do not use the upper lot, our traffic backs up quickly.

All students should be dropped off through the car rider line. If you need to enter the building, please park in a designated parking space and walk in with your student.

Beginning Tuesday, 9/8, our Head Start families will arrive and enter through the bus lot. This means that only Pre-K parents should be walking their students into the building. (I know some parents are currently entering the building to purchase candy during our candy sale.)

Please do not park in the lot and walk your child to the crosswalk. Students should be dropped off through the car rider line.

Beginning Tuesday, 9/8, we will begin recording student tardies. School begins at 7:45 a.m. If everyone arrives at 7:40 a.m., there may be several students being dropped off at the same time. Once it is 7:45, parents will need to sign their tardy student in at the front office.

Afternoon Dismissal

We stop student checkouts at 2:15 p.m. At that time, we begin our dismissal process in different areas of the building. Please plan accordingly if you need to check your student out later in the day.

If you have a Head Start or Pre-K student and a K–5 student, please keep in mind that they have different dismissal times. All K–5 students will follow our regular dismissal procedures.

Please do not create a double line until you turn into the upper parking lot. Creating a double line at the driveway entrance makes it difficult for vehicles to exit and blocks access to our parking lot for those who may need it.

Our car line has been finished around 3:05 p.m. this week, which is amazing! We expect dismissal to continue getting quicker as students and families become accustomed to our procedures. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during afternoon pickup.

Ensuring the safety of our students is our top priority during arrival and dismissal. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to keep our campus safe and make arrival and dismissal as smooth as possible for everyone.

Good evening, Williamsburg families!

I wanted to provide some information about Beginning-of-Year (BOY) testing that you may hear your student talk about. We are currently beginning our diagnostic testing in both math (i-Ready) and reading (mClass).

The purpose of diagnostic testing is to provide teachers with information about each student’s current level of learning. Teachers use this information to help guide their instruction and determine how best to support each student’s learning needs.

We need our students to try their best on these assessments so that we can accurately identify where they need support and how best to provide it.

We will complete these assessments several times throughout the school year so teachers can monitor student progress and adjust instruction and support as needed.

If you have any questions about these diagnostic assessments, please contact your student’s teacher.

Thank you, and have a great evening!

Mark your calendars…

Good evening, Williamsburg families! This is Principal Ziglar with your weekly updates.

Thank you for a great first week of school! We are excited for a great year at Williamsburg! Please make sure you review all paperwork sent home with your student this week and return it to school. If you plan to volunteer or chaperone a field trip, you will need to complete a background check. A QR code was sent home with the link to the background check website. It is a good idea to complete background checks now. Background checks are good for two years and cover all students you have at Williamsburg.

Our PTA will meet Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Come out and join our PTA as we work together to support our students and teachers.

🍫 Candy Bar Fundraiser
We will be kicking off our candy bar fundraiser on September 10, with a pre-sale option beginning September 2.

If you choose to participate in the pre-sale, please return the permission slip your student will receive by September 2. Permission slips will be sent home on Monday.

Students can earn prizes by selling chocolate bars. The prizes are listed on the permission slip.

Even if you do not participate in the pre-sale, you will still need to return the permission slip.

If your student is a bus rider, you will need to pick up the chocolate from the front office during the school day between 7:20 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Candy money should be sent in with your child in the envelope provided so their teacher can collect it, or you can bring it to the front office.
