The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) in consultation with the States of Oregon, Washington, and California, the Pacific Fishery Management Council, and industry participants met today via conference call and have taken the following in-season management action related to the ocean recreational non-mark selective coho salmon season from Cape Falcon to Humbug Mt.:

ACTIONS TAKEN:
•Effective Friday, September 4, 2026, reduce the coho quota for the Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain ocean recreational non-mark selective coho fishery by 1,800 from 27,500 to 25,700. The quota is being adjusted on an impact neutral basis to account for an overage accrued during the prior South of Falcon ocean recreational mark-selective coho fishery.

RATIONALE:
The quota in the Cape Falcon to the Oregon/California border ocean recreational mark-selective (fin-clipped) coho season which ended on August 18 was exceeded. NMFS calculated the amount of coho needed to result in an impact-neural quota rollback from the September non-mark select (no fin-clip requirement) to cover this overage. The calculated amount was 1,800 coho, resulting in an adjusted quota of 25,700 coho for the September Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain non-mark select season which opened on September 1.

August 20, 2026 - CAPE FALCON TO OR/CA BORDER RECREATIONAL OCEAN SALMON COURTESY REMINDER:

This message is a courtesy reminder that the ocean recreational salmon mark-select (fin-clipped) coho season between Cape Falcon and the Oregon/California Border is closed.

Anglers are reminded that following the closure to coho retention on August 18, the fishery from Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain remains open for all salmon except coho, with a two salmon daily bag limit through October 31, 2026, except as provided in the non-mark-selective coho fishery. The scheduled non-mark-select (no fin-clip requirement) will open on Tuesday September 1, 2026. The Chinook minimum size limit is 24".

Anglers in the area from Humbug Mountain to the Oregon/California Border are reminded that all salmon except coho remains open through August 31, 2026, with a two salmon daily bag limit. In this area coho retention is prohibited for the rest of the year. The Chinook minimum size limit is 24".

Announcement from the Oregon Dept. of Land Conservation and Development:

Curry and Douglas County residents, business owners, community organizations, and other interested parties are invited to participate in the development of coastal natural hazards resilience action plans for both Curry and Douglas County.

Natural hazards such as tsunami, earthquake, coastal flooding, erosion, landslides, wildfire, extreme weather, drought, sea level rise, climate change, and other environmental challenges can affect our communities, economy, infrastructure, and natural resources. These local action plans are being developed to help Curry and Douglas County better prepare for, respond to, and recover from these challenges while protecting people, places, and resources that make our communities unique.

As part of this effort, we are seeking input from community members about what matters most, what concerns you have for the future, and what actions could help strengthen community resilience across Curry and Douglas Counties.

Your participation is important. Local residents have valuable knowledge about community needs, strengths, vulnerabilities, and opportunities that cannot be gathered from maps, reports, or technical studies alone. Input from community members help identify priority assets, populations, services, infrastructure, natural resources, and community values that should be considered in the plan. It will also help inform future resilience strategies and projects.
