đźš‘ Happy EMS Week from Osceola County EMS! đźš‘

This year’s EMS Week theme is “Improving Outcomes. Together.”

At Osceola County EMS, that message reflects the heart of what we do every day. EMS is not just one person, one ambulance, or one call. It is a coordinated effort between EMTs, Paramedics, dispatchers, firefighters, law enforcement, hospital teams, medical control, community partners, and the citizens we serve.

Every response is built on teamwork. Every patient outcome is shaped by preparation, communication, compassion, and clinical excellence.

This week, we proudly recognize the dedicated EMS professionals of Osceola County EMS and our local first response partners who serve our communities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From emergency responses and interfacility transports to community education and public health partnerships, our team of dedicated professionals continues to make a difference when it matters most.

To our EMTs, Paramedics, and all who support our mission: thank you for your commitment, professionalism, and dedication to your craft.

Together, we are improving outcomes for Osceola County.

As water levels continue to rise across our area, we strongly urge all residents to take advisories from local emergency services seriously.

With additional rainfall expected, expanding road closures, and ongoing flooding, Osceola County EMS is actively adjusting operations to maintain fast and effective emergency response throughout the county.

First responders - including Evart Area Fire Department, Marion Community Fire Department, Hersey Township Fire and Osceola County Emergency Management—have been working around the clock to keep our communities informed, safe, and prepared.

Please continue to stay alert, follow official guidance, and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we navigate these challenging conditions together. Stay safe, Osceola County.

Thanks to the warm weather this evening, the Winter 2026 EMT class was able to get outside and put their skills into action.

Students practiced caring for patients with traumatic injuries—from arriving on scene to transferring care. Throughout the exercise, they showed strong teamwork, clear communication, and solid hands-on skills.

As they approach the end of the program, students are expected not only to perform skills correctly, but also to apply their knowledge, communicate effectively with patients, and work well as a team.

Excellent work tonight, everyone!

📣 BIG NEWS FOR OSCEOLA COUNTY AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES📣

We are proud to announce that Osceola County EMS is now officially an Infant Safe Sleep certified agency through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Emergency Medical Services for Children program.

WHY SAFE SLEEP MATTERSđź’¤

Each year, sleep-related deaths remain one of the leading causes of preventable infant mortality. Many of these tragedies are linked to unsafe sleep environments.

We are committed to helping families reduce these risks through education, resources, and support.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER

Through this certification, Osceola County EMS is now able to provide:

- Infant safe sleep education for families, caregivers, and community members.
- Guidance on creating a safe sleep environment for infants through home visits and in-person or on-scene education.
- Referrals to local support resources
- Pack-and-play portable cribs, wearable blankets, and sleeping accessories for families unable to access these critical resources through other means at no cost.
- Community education for schools, churches, groups, and organizations.

These resources are available to all Osceola County and surrounding area community members through our Infant Safe Sleep program.

REMEMBER THE ABC’s OF SLEEP

A- Alone (no blankets, pillows, stuffed animals or bumpers)

B- On their back

C- In a crib or other safe-sleep space (pack-and-play or bassinet)

Every Sleep. Every Nap. Every Night

If you or someone you know needs safe sleep education or assistance obtaining a safe sleep space for an infant, please contact our Safe Sleep Coordinator by sending us a message here, by phone at 231-832-6152 ext 153, or by email at [email protected]

We are committed to protecting our community, from the first breath forward.

❤️ February is American Heart Month ❤️

Osceola County EMS is proud to recognize American Heart Month and Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Week (February 7th-14th) This month is dedicated to raising awareness about heart health, heart disease prevention, and the importance of knowing what to do in a cardiac emergency.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States. Many cardiac emergencies happen suddenly and without warning, but quick action can save lives. Knowing the signs and symptoms can make a critical difference:

* Chest pain or pressure
* Shortness of breath
* Sudden dizziness or fainting
* Pain in the arm, jaw, neck, or back
* Unexplained fatigue or nausea

Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs) are the most common birth defect, affecting nearly 1 in 100 babies (approx. 40,000 each year). Many individuals living with CHDs lead full lives but may face lifelong heart-related challenges and increased risk for cardiac complications. Raising awareness helps support early detection, treatment, and lifelong care.

đźš‘ Why CPR matters
If someone collapses and is unresponsive, immediate CPR can significantly improve their chances of survival. Bystander CPR before EMS arrives is often the difference between life and death.

When it comes to cardiac arrest, the paramedics and EMT’s aren’t the first responders, you are!

Hands-Only CPR is simple:

1. Call 911 immediately.
2. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest (100–120 beats per minute).
3. Continue compressions until EMS arrives or an AED is available.

See the American Heart Association Hands-Only CPR video here:

You don’t have to be a medical professional to save a life — anyone can learn CPR. We encourage our community to contact us for CPR training for family and friends, or for groups and businesses.

Together, through awareness, education, and preparedness, we can help protect the hearts of our community. đź’™

⚠️ Safety Reminder: Use Generators and Gas Heaters Safely! ⚠️

As the weather conditions in Osceola County continue to deteriorate, we want to remind everyone to be extra cautious when using generators and gas-powered heaters. While these tools are essential for staying warm and keeping the power on, they can pose serious risks if not used properly.

đź”´ Important Safety Tips:
NEVER use a generator indoors – even in a garage or basement. Generators produce carbon monoxide (CO), a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly if inhaled.

Place your generator outdoors – at least 20 feet away from windows, doors, and vents to avoid CO buildup inside.

Keep gas-powered heaters well-ventilated – make sure the area is properly ventilated to allow fresh air in and CO to escape.

Install a CO detector – If you don’t already have one, install a CO detector in your home to help detect dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.

Don’t overload your generator – only run essential appliances and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is LIFE-THREATENING! If you develop symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning such as:

- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Confusion

Move into fresh air and call 911 immediately!

Stay warm. Stay safe. Stay vigilant.
