In this Meet the Member feature, meet Carryn Barker. Detective Barker has spent 10 years serving her community. Her favorite part of the job is the people. Whether it’s her team or the community she serves, those relationships make the work meaningful. In her free time, she runs ultra marathons.

Carryn recently shared her story in a TEDx talk, From Silence to Strength: Building Cultures of Resilience, where she speaks about building resilience, fostering trust, and leading with courage.

One of our Records Technicians, Geeiah Lallana, is stepping into the ring for his first Muay Thai title fight at the Central Coast Fighting Championship on March 7 at the Santa Cruz Veterans Hall. Doors open at 4:00 PM and fights begin at 5:00 PM.

Thank you to everyone who came out to this weekend's open mat fundraiser at 148_jiu_jitsu in Redwood City in support of the family of Daly City Police Sergeant Shane Hart. Shane was a Marine Corps veteran, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a respected leader whose professionalism and caring nature left a mark on everyone who knew him.

We also want to give a special thanks to 148 Jiu Jitsu for hosting this event. Sworn staff are encouraged to join Peninsula Self Defense Training Academy to sharpen skills, stay active, relieve stress, and connect with colleagues. Meet Correctional Deputy Horsely, an 11-year member of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. He enjoys the camaraderie of the workplace, the great conversations that come with the job and fresh cups of office coffee. Fun fact: he was technically a Times Magazine Person of the Year in 2006 (when “You” was honored).

We are fundraising on behalf of Deputy Wil Herrera, a 20-year veteran peace officer. He served 16 years with the South San Francisco Police Department, and is currently employed as a Deputy with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. In his 20-year career as a peace officer, he has served his community tirelessly and touched countless lives. Wil is currently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and beginning his battle with this horrible disease. Wil is a dedicated father to three boys, a loving partner to his significant other, and a friend to countless others. Any contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated. Thank you for your kindness, support, and for keeping Wil and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
