Hot off the press! Check out our UPK planning report!

After a year-long planning effort with members of the Child Care Partnership Council, we are proud to share this planning report on how to bring Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) to San Mateo County!

The report includes, data, best practices, and recommendations on how to ensure all four-year-olds and a greater number of three-year-olds have access to full-day, high-quality early education and care programs before kindergarten.

โ€œOnce again, our county has come together to focus on how we can better serve our youngest residents. This plan helps us create high-quality learning opportunities for three- and four-year-olds to meet local needs,โ€ shared San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Magee.

New grant opportunity to increase supply of child care in City of San Carlos! For either new program facilities (including home-based!) or program expansion at existing child care.

New Childcare Grant Program: Now Accepting Applications!

On August 12, the City Council approved a childcare grant program aimed at supporting local childcare operators expand childcare spaces. This initiative is part of the City Councilโ€™s ongoing strategic goal to enhance access to childcare by reducing financial barriers to the creation and expansion of childcare facilities.

Program Overview: Eligible applicants include for-profit, nonprofit, and faith-based childcare providers, as well as family childcare homes. Grant funds can only be used for capital improvement costs and not for operations or maintenance. The capital improvement project must lead to an increase of childcare spaces. Each applicant may request up to $100,000, with a guaranteed full funding for the first $50,000 of the project cost and 50% coverage for any amount over that. Applicants must demonstrate financial viability, commit to long-term project goals, and agree to reporting requirements. Review the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for full grant details and requirements.

๐Ÿ“…The application deadline is Friday, October 18, 2024, by 5:00 p.m. to be considered for this cycle of funding.
