The Environmental Justice Committee sponsored a resolution that was passed by the SMC Youth Commission to encourage the Board of Trustees of 23 school district boards in SMC to pass climate emergency resolutions that would outline actions each district would take in combating climate change.

Considering that the effects of climate change will greatly impact the wellbeing of San Mateo County, we need to urgently take action to mitigate its effects. In following suit with the state’s policies and SMC Board of Supervisors’ Approval of a Climate Emergency Declaration, the SMC Youth Commission feels that schools across the county need to make a similar commitment.
