Redmond Police reminds everyone to make safe choices behind the wheel. Whether you’re staying local or hitting the road, keep these tips in mind:

🍺 Don’t drink and drive. Designate a sober driver or use another safe way home.

📱 Buckle up and stay hands-free. Keep your focus on the road and your hands on the wheel.

⏰ Allow extra travel time. Increased holiday traffic may mean longer travel times, so plan ahead and be patient.

Let’s all do our part to make this Labor Day weekend a safe one for everyone. Share the road. Drive safe. Get home safely.

On Tuesday, Sept. 1, we had the privilege of recognizing our Cadet Post Captain Piitu Impio at her final meeting before heading to her next adventure.

Her leadership and dedication have helped provide our cadets with valuable opportunities to learn, grow, and develop as future leaders.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated Cadet Mentors, Sgt. Patty Neorr, Det. Tyler VerWahren, Ofc. Holly Broughton, Ofc. David Nguyen, Det. Elliott Head, Ofc. 🚌 See a school bus with red lights flashing and the stop paddle out? STOP.

You must stop whether the bus is on your side of the road, across the road, or at an intersection you’re approaching.

The only exceptions are when the bus is traveling in the opposite direction and the roadway:

• Has 3 or more marked lanes
• Is separated by a median
• Is separated by a physical barrier or turning lane

⚠️ Fines for failure to stop for a school bus when required face a $500 fine, and the penalty cannot be waived, reduced, or suspended.

We also take time to remember the K-9 officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their loyalty, courage, and dedication will never be forgotten.

Officer John Miner established the Redmond Police Department K-9 Unit in 1978. For nearly five decades, these highly trained and dedicated K-9s have been an important part of our department.

Behind every great police K-9 is a dedicated handler. We’re proud to recognize the officers who spend countless hours training, caring for, and working alongside their four-legged partners. The bond between a K-9 and handler is truly one of a kind.

🚔 Distracted Driving Emphasis Patrols: Eyes Up. Phone Down.

Throughout August, officers conducted multiple distracted-driving emphasis patrols as part of NHTSA's National Traffic Safety Awareness Month, focusing on safer driving and reducing crashes in our community.

During the month, officers conducted 774 traffic stops and responded to 69 collisions. This video highlights just a few of those traffic stops.

A moment of distraction can have serious consequences. Put the phone down, stay focused on the road, and make safe choices every time you get behind the wheel.

🚸 Slow down, Redmond!

Speed safety cameras at Redmond High School, Redmond Middle School and Rose Hill Middle School were reactivated today, Aug. 31.

Enforcement is now underway, with citations issued for alleged speeding violations in designated school zones during designated hours when the school zone beacons are flashing.

Help keep students safe by slowing down and paying attention in school zones. 🚦

The speed safety cameras at Redmond High School (17272 NE 104th Street), Redmond Middle School (10055 166th Avenue NE), and Rose Hill Middle School (13505 NE 75th Street) were reactivated today, Aug. 31, 2026. Enforcement has begun - with citations issued for alleged violations - in the designated school zones, during designated hours, when the school zone beacons are flashing. Designated hours typically include 30 minutes before the start of school and after school until 5 p.m. on school days.

Funds from Redmond's Speed Safety Camera Pilot Program will go toward local safety improvements, as outlined by Revised Code of Washington 46.63.220, helping create safer crosswalks, enhanced signage, and additional infrastructure designed to reduce vehicle speeds.

Crash Leads to DUI Arrest After Driver Found More Than Twice the Legal Limit

At approximately 6:25 p.m. on Aug. 27, Redmond Police officers responded to a single vehicle collision after a vehicle crashed into a crosswalk median near 148th Ave NE and NE 87th Street.

The driver was arrested for DUI after officers observed signs of impairment. His blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved and no one else was injured.

Please make a plan before you drink. If you’ve been drinking or using any substance that impairs your ability to drive, don’t get behind the wheel. Use a rideshare, call a sober friend or family member, or find another safe way home.

Arrest Made in Multi-Jurisdiction Vehicle Theft Investigation

After months of investigation, detectives arrested 28-year-old Tyrone Fareed of Burien on August 26 in connection with multiple vehicle theft cases across the Puget Sound region.
In many of the cases, Fareed arranged to purchase vehicles listed for sale online and provided sellers with fraudulent checks before taking possession of the vehicles.

Fareed was arrested in Bellevue and booked on charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Forgery and Trafficking of Stolen Property in the First Degree. He also had multiple outstanding felony warrants.

Thank you to the Kirkland Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force and the Washington State Department of Corrections for their assistance with the investigation and arrest.

Breaking down language barriers with technology.

During a recent traffic stop, a Redmond Police sergeant used the AI-powered real-time translation feature on their Axon body-worn camera to communicate with a Portuguese-speaking driver.

The technology provides two-way, real-time voice translation in more than 50 languages, helping officers communicate more effectively when a language barrier exists. With the feature activated through the body-worn camera, officers can speak naturally while receiving instant translations, all while the camera continues recording.

It’s another way technology can help our officers communicate, connect and serve our community.

Back to School E Bike Safety

Parents, as you shop for back to school transportation, an e bike can be a great way for your child to get around, but not all electric bikes are the same. Before your child rides to school, make sure you know what you are buying and what Washington law requires.

🚲 E bikes typically fall into three classes. Class 3 e bikes can provide pedal assistance up to 28 mph, but it is illegal for anyone under 16 to operate a Class 3 e bike in Washington state.

🏍️ E motorcycles typically provide assistance above 28 mph, have more than 750 watts of power, and do not have fully operable pedals. In Washington, riding an e motorcycle requires a driver's license and proper insurance.
