Sustainable landscaping is coming to Avondale Road and West Lake Sammamish Parkway. Starting September 14, the City of Redmond will begin converting several rights-of-way along these corridors as part of our Climate Resiliency and Sustainability in Vegetation Management Plan, an effort to make our public landscapes more resilient to climate impacts while reducing water use, maintenance, and long-term costs.

On West Lake Sammamish Parkway, some existing plants will be replaced with species selected for climate resilience and drought tolerance, supporting healthier long-term growth with less water and upkeep. On Avondale Road, the street trees will stay in place, but the groundcover beneath them will be replaced with a low-mow, drought-tolerant seed mix that reduces mowing frequency while supporting soil health. Both sites will receive three years of dedicated maintenance to help the new plantings establish.

This work reflects what our community told us through the PARCC Plan: that healthy, resilient natural spaces matter in Redmond. Please note there will be intermittent lane closures in these areas while work is underway, with an approved traffic control plan in place.
