Spent the morning at Tesla STEM High School listening to international business presentations—and I left inspired.

Students explored global markets like the Netherlands, the UK, Guatemala, and Madagascar with thoughtfulness and curiosity. I had the chance to contribute perspective from my own experience doing business abroad—and to ask a question that stopped the room:

How do wage gaps show up in the countries you’re studying?

Many hadn’t yet explored that lens—and today, on Women’s Equal Pay Day in the U.S., it felt especially important to raise. Because while today marks progress, it’s not the full picture:
Black Women’s Equal Pay Day and Latina Equal Pay Day falling on July 21, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.

Awareness is where change begins—and these students are exactly where those conversations should start.

The upcoming Artemis II launch has me thinking about the event that Councilmember Jessica Forsythe attended this past August at Aerojet Rocketdyne L3Harris Technologies that recognized the hard work of the team here in Redmond - with special guest NASA Astronaut Warren Hoburg. It was a powerful reminder of what collective effort can achieve.

Artemis II is not just a mission to return humans to lunar orbit—it’s a national endeavor. Every one of the fifty states is contributing talent, technology, and ingenuity to this next chapter of space exploration. That level of coordination and shared purpose feels especially meaningful in this moment.

Here in Redmond, we’re proud to be part of that story. Our community plays a role in the aerospace ecosystem through innovation and propulsion leadership, including the legacy and ongoing work connected to Aerojet Rocketdyne—helping power missions that reach far beyond our city limits.

Artemis II isn’t just about returning humans to the Moon—it’s about unity, persistence, and investing in a future that belongs to all of us. When every state shows up, we don’t just launch rockets—we launch hope.

Thank you to all of the candidates that applied for the vacant councilmember position. While it was challenging narrowing it down to three candidates last night, it was easy to see that our community loves Redmond.

Councilmember Stuart watched from the dais as I was being sworn in two years ago - now I get to watch her being sworn in from the dais!

It was standing room only as we swore in CM Stuart for her second term, and Vivek Prakriya and Menka Soni.

By the end of the night, we have six of our seven councilmembers, with the seventh being appointed in mid January.

I’m looking forward to serving Redmond together!

As our first Latine elected in Redmond, and a military veteran, thank you for allowing me to provide clarity of intent.

At a special meeting held on Monday, November 3, 2000 2025 when I said that “it is upon the community to fight back against ICE, my intent was not to call for physical confrontation or unlawful resistance. I was speaking to the moral and civic responsibility of neighbors, faith communities and local leaders to stand up for one another when federal immigration enforcement actions sow fear in our cities.

Because our local police are legally prohibited from interfering and federal immigration operations, our residents often feel powerless when community members are detained or deported. My point was that, in those moments “fighting back” means exercising our community power: knowing our rights offering legal aid, sharing information, organizing rapid response support, and ensure no one faces intimidation or detention alone.

At the heart of this is a commitment to the constitutional protections we all share under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments: the right to be free from unreasonable, searches, and seizures, and the right to do process under the law. Upholding these rights is not an active defiance - it is an affirmation of the American values in the rule of law.

Our community’s strength lies in our compassion and solidarity. Protecting all residents - regardless of immigration status - is a matter of public safety and human dignity. I remain committed to lawful nonviolent community based actions that affirm those values.

It was wonderful being able to come together as a community to celebrate last night. Wishing the community members that we unable to join us a safe celebration over the coming days at home with their families as we remember and welcome our loved ones 🧡

If you are protesting today, let's look after each other- including after the march/rally supporting the local businesses in the area that you are gathering in if you are able. These small businesses tend to be negatively financially impacted with these events. Let's help each other other and BE community.

WHEN IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT

From Public Health Seattle King County:

Avoid food poisoning after a power outage.

1. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. This keeps the cold air inside. A full freezer can stay at freezing temperatures about 2 days; a half-full freezer about 1 day.

2. If you think the power will be out for a long time, try to find some ice to pack inside your refrigerator, or move perishable food to a cooler with ice packs or frozen items.

3. When the power comes back, if foods have been warm too long (above 40 degrees), they may contain bacteria that could make you sick. They may look or smell fine, but when in doubt, throw it out!
