A TORNADO WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR JAY COUNTY UNTIL 1 AM THURSDAY.

With the weather being unpredictable and shifting, it is always good to stay severe weather aware. This storm has been shifting all day and is still being monitored closely.

Some tips for tonight:
Make sure your phone is charged
Make sure you have a safe place to seek shelter in the event of a tornado
Have flashlights and extra batteries on hand
Make sure you have reviewed your families emergency plans
Make sure you are able to get updated weather reports via a radio or another broadcasting device

Remember this storm can shift or grow at any time without any notice. As always we are monitoring this storm and will try and provide any major updates when they come in.

Radar update!
Storms are firing across Illinois as destabilization is underway along and south of the warm front. The greatest potential for severe weather and some significant severe weather will be across portions of Central Indiana especially near I-74 and the I-70 corridor along and south of the warm front. All hazards remain possible tonight. Areas across Northern Indiana are not entirely out of the woods as this warm front is expected to lift north. Persons are encouraged remain severe weather aware tonight.

Storms will move very fast! Moving east at 60-70mph!

This is a reminder to stay weather aware! With the storm coming tomorrow there is a potential for dangerous and unpredictable weather.

It is encouraged that you start preparing for this storm by making sure you have a safe area to seek shelter in and enough food and supplies to get you through the storm. The Redkey Police Department will be monitoring the storm’s movement and intensity as the day goes on tomorrow.

⚠️A potentially impactful day for severe weather is on the table tomorrow across Indiana. Right now all hazards appear possible including the potential for very large hail and a few tornadoes. A few strong tornadoes ( EF-2+) are possible.

While confidence is growing in a potential impactful day across our region, there are still a few uncertainties ahead of tomorrow. Like last Thursday, there is a chance of morning showers which may impact the location and severity of round 2. We will continue to watch trends and adjust forecasts as needed. Forecast revisions are expected as data and locations are fined tuned through tomorrow.

After 1:00pm EDT into tomorrow night

-HAZARDS-
● Damaging winds 60-70mph
● Tornadoes (a few may be strong EF-2+)
● Large hail up to 2.00"

Another hazard will be very fast storm motions. Storms will potentially be moving very quickly tomorrow at speeds greater than 60mph! This means potentially less reaction time. Persons are encouraged to remain weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Scammer alert 🚨‼️🚨 A Redkey resident shared with me a transcript from a resident who was targeted by a scam. Please be advised that the Town of Redkey does not have a “Hardship Service Department of Redkey.”

A general rule to keep in mind: if you are uncertain about any request, ask the company or caller to send you a letter via mail. Legitimate entities should already possess your current address and information without requiring you to provide it.
