Imagine the joy of helping a child discover a love for reading! ❤️ Reading Pals is looking for dedicated volunteers to provide 1-on-1 reading support to students in Shasta County. Just 1-2 hours a week can build confidence and foundational skills that last a lifetime. Students involved in the program are growing by leaps and bounds, and the adults are having fun, too! You don't need prior experience – just a willingness to connect. Our first orientation of the year is Monday, Sept. 14. See the flyer for details.

What happens when we don’t learn to read? Join us for a community screening of "Sentenced," a compelling documentary from producers Stephen Curry and Erick Peyton that explores the importance of literacy and serves as a call to action for our community.

Please join us for this powerful film and conversation from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at SCOE's Professional Development Center, 2685 Innsbruck Drive, Redding. Light refreshments will be provided.

Ready to become a teacher? There’s a pathway designed to help you get there while you gain experience in a local classroom. The Teacher Intern Program offers a fully online pathway to earn your teaching credential, paired with in-person support from local supervisors and mentors.

Credential pathways are available in:
• PK–3rd Grade
• Special Education
• Single Subject Mathematics
• Single Subject Science

Staff from SCOE’s Tri Mountain Academy treated Shasta County Probation Department staff at the Juvenile Rehabilitation Facility to an annual barbecue lunch last week. This is an opportunity for school staff to thank Probation staff for their partnership, including keeping the school safe and collaborating on activities to keep students learning and engaged. We are better together!

Thank you to Shasta County Sheriff's Department Detectives Williams and Page, who spoke to about a dozen school administrators about their new multi-disciplinary threat assessment and response team. The presentation gave an overview of how multiple agencies are working together to assess and respond effectively to school threats. We appreciate these relationships with our law enforcement partners.

Hey hey! 🖐️ FIVE FOR FRIDAY is here! From inflatable crosswalk cones and full-ride college wins to plant bubbles, fair florals, and microscopic discoveries, this week had it all! Here’s your weekly FIVE FOR FRIDAY roundup:

🍃 Young scientists at Excel Academy got a front-row seat to biology in action, placing fresh leaves underwater to watch photosynthesis create real oxygen bubbles right before their eyes!
🛑 Crosswalk duty got an upgrade this week when Turtle Bay School's Principal Mr. Hall rocked a giant inflatable traffic cone costume to keep traffic safety fun!
🎓 Enterprise High School hosted a stellar "College Application Insider Tips" panel featuring three incredible Hornet alumni who all earned full-ride scholarships to UC campuses this fall!
💐 Burney Jr-Sr High School students showed off their incredible eye for design and color by entering their hand-crafted floral arrangements into the Inter-Mountain Fair!
🔬 Students at Redding STEM Academy peered through microscopes to examine cellular structures up close and explore the hidden details of the world around us!
