Drug Trafficker sentenced to 99 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.
Ellis County and District Attorney Lindy Beaty announced that on April 21, 2026, Che-De-Aztlan Martinez (46) of Austin, Texas, was convicted of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and sentenced by a jury to 99 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the maximum fine of $250,000.
On February 3, 2023 Red Oak Police Department stopped a Dodge Challenger for a simple traffic violation. Officers identified the driver of the vehicle as Eric Mancera and passenger as Che-De-Aztlan Martinez. After smelling the overwhelming odor of ma*****na coming from the vehicle, officers located two one-kilogram bricks of co***ne in a bag located in the back seat. Neither individual claimed knowledge of the co***ne.
Further investigation led Red Oak Police Departmentâs Criminal Investigations Division to conduct a forensic analysis of both individualsâ cell phones. The contents of Mr. Martinezâs cell phone confirmed that he worked in a multiparty drug trafficking organization that transported hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine, co***ne, he**in, and fentanyl throughout the country. In addition to transporting large quantities of drugs, Mr. Martinez would arrange large sums of money to be wired to international accounts in Central America and the Mexican State of Michoacan.
The driver, Eric Mancera, quickly entered into a plea agreement in 2024 and received 30 years prison for possession with intent to deliver. The passenger, Che-De-Aztlan Martinez rejected all plea offers and instead requested a jury trial.
âTexas has long stood on the front lines of combatting organized drug trafficking for a majority of the United States,â said lead prosecutor Garett Smith. âTodayâs verdict sends a clear message that Ellis County will not tolerate drug traffickers who exploit and destroy our community for profit.â
Although Mr. Martinez had never been sentenced to prison before, his criminal history included convictions for possession of a felony amount of ma*****na, possession of a controlled substance, and burglary of a habitation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant County and District Attorneys Garett Smith and Sherry Roeder, with the assistance of Ellis County and District Attorney Investigator Stephen Cooper. Our office would like to recognize the outstanding work performed by Red Oak Sergeant Cody McKinney and Officer Antonio Avina.
