May the 4th be with you on this International Firefighter's Day, and what better way to celebrate than with Engine 182’s next chapter.
Last week, in a galaxy not so far away, some of your Red Oak Firefighters and Admin completed a final inspection of new Fire Engine 182 in Wisconsin, where Pierce Manufacturing is headquartered. This engine replacement is part of our regular replacement schedule for fleet vehicles.

We look forward to seeing this apparatus serving our Red Oak community soon, and ready to respond faster than the Millennium Falcon!

Fire Awards!

On January 30, 2025, Red Oak Fire Rescue responded to a mutual-aid request to Maypearl for a swift-water rescue involving two victims who had been swept from a roadway by high water while riding a side-by-side ATV.

Truck 181, Rescue 181, and Battalion 181 arrived to find the victims stranded on a log about 30 feet from the roadway, separated by two bodies of water and difficult terrain. After assessing conditions, crews deployed an inflatable rescue raft and carried it through floodwater and across dry ground to reach the victims.

Firefighters conducted a current assessment and determined a controlled downstream lowering of the raft could be safely performed. Firefighter Fain boarded the raft and was lowered to the victims while three upstream personnel managed the tether line from the submerged roadway. Firefighter Fain fitted both victims with personal flotation devices and assisted them onto the raft one at a time, while crews safely retrieved the raft back against the current.

After the rescue, the victims were moved across the remaining terrain and transferred patient care to Allegiance EMS. Thanks to the skill, teamwork, and calm ex*****on of everyone involved, both victims were rescued safely and all units returned to service without injury.

For their actions during this rescue, the involved personnel were recognized for their bravery at March’s Council meeting!

🎖️LIFESAVING AWARDS 🎖️

On the evening of September 13, 2025, Red Oak Fire Rescue and mutual aid crews responded to a reported structure fire on Prairie View Lane, where a resident was believed to still be inside.

Engine 182, staffed by Captain Wilkinson, Driver/Engineer Riordan, and Firefighter Slovak, arrived and began fire attack operations while Battalion 181 (Chief Jakubik) established command. Truck 181, staffed by Acting Captain Markgraf, Acting Driver/Engineer G. Guerrero, and Firefighter Kirby, arrived shortly after to assist with search efforts and water supply.

During the primary search, Wilkinson, Markgraf, and Slovak entered the structure and used a thermal imaging camera to locate the unconscious resident. They pulled the victim to safety, where he was found to be pulseless and not breathing. Immediate lifesaving care on scene helped restore respirations before the patient was transported for advanced medical treatment.

Thanks to the quick, coordinated actions of all personnel involved, the resident survived and was later discharged from the hospital on October 16, 2025.

We're proud to recognize their heroic acts during March’s Council Meeting!
