During October's City Council Meeting, Mayor Stanfill proclaimed October as Fire Prevention Month in Red Oak! 🔥

This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety,” with a focus on safe charging habits to help prevent lithium-ion battery fires. From phones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools, how we charge our devices matters!

Follow these safe charging tips:
⚡ Use the right charger: Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
🔌 Charge on a hard surface: Keep devices on a table or desk, not on beds, couches, or pillows where heat can build up.
🔋 Know the warning signs: Stop using a battery if it becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, smells strange, or makes popping or hissing sounds.
✅ Unplug when fully charged: Avoid leaving devices plugged in after they finish charging.
🚲 Charge larger devices safely: When possible, charge e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outdoors, away from exits.

Red Oak Fire Rescue encourages everyone to make safe charging part of their daily routine. Small changes can help prevent fires and keep our community safe.

The City of Red Oak is pleased to announce the appointment of David Jones as the City's next Fire Chief. With more than 36 years of fire service, emergency management, and public safety experience, he brings a wealth of knowledge, strong leadership, and a commitment to serving both our employees and community.

Since June this year, Chief Jones has served as Interim Fire Chief, providing steady leadership and support during an important transition period for the department. His collaborative approach, dedication to public service, and focus on building strong relationships have already made a positive impact on our organization.

Prior to joining Red Oak, he served as Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Keller and has continued supporting communities across Texas through interim leadership and training roles.

We would also like to thank Battalion Chiefs Jakubik, Nichols, and Petricca, along with the entire Red Oak Fire Department command staff, for their leadership, professionalism, and dedication throughout this transition.

Chief Jones will officially begin serving in this role on October 19 following a competitive recruitment process that attracted more than 50 applicants. Let's give him a warm welcome as the next Fire Chief for the City of Red Oak.

Our RO firefighters are on the move! 🚒
Captain Moses and Engineer Guerrero left earlier this week at 5:30AM for Amarillo, alongside two members of the Corsicana Fire Rescue. They are headed to the Texas panhandle to prepare to assist with flooding, tornadoes, and storm damage. They have now being repositioned to Lubbock to continue providing all-hazards support wherever they’re needed.

We’re proud of our RO firefighters for answering the call and helping communities across Texas!

The community that raised him is now the community he serves!
Thank you to Red Oak ISD for recognizing Captain Jared Ussery during Firefighter Appreciation Month and sharing his journey from Red Oak student to Red Oak Fire Rescue Captain.
We appreciate the opportunity to share his story and hope it inspires the next generation of leaders, first responders, and public servants right here in Red Oak.

This morning, members of the Red Oak Police Department and Red Oak Fire Rescue joined Holder Construction for a ceremony of remembrance honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Accompanied throughout by the sound of bagpipes, the ceremony included words of remembrance from Red Oak Police Officer Dansby and Police Chief Tijerina, followed by a retelling of the events of September 11 through timestamped key moments from that day. Holder employees then came together outside to form “Never Forget 9/11” for a commemorative photo before the ceremony concluded with a group folding of the American flag.

Thank you to Holder Construction for continuing this meaningful tradition and inviting our public safety personnel to take part as we remember the lives lost, the first responders who answered the call, and all those forever impacted by September 11.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Thank you to Melina, ROISD Communications Coordinator, for stopping by the fire station to do a feature story on Captain Jared Ussery for Firefighter Appreciation Month!

Captain Ussery talked about his time as a student in ROISD, what led him to a career in the fire service, and some of the lessons he has learned about leadership along the way.

Thank you to Red Oak ISD for reaching out and including Captain Ussery in this special recognition. We can’t wait to see the full feature later this month!

Could your family get out of your home in under 2 minutes if there's a fire? A home fire can spread fast, which is why having and practicing a home fire escape plan is so important.

✅ Know two ways out of every room
✅ Make sure smoke alarms are installed and working
✅ Choose a safe outdoor meeting place
✅ Practice your family's fire escape plan at least twice a year

If you have young children, be sure they know what a smoke alarm sounds like, where to go, and that once they're out, they stay out.

Take a few minutes to make a plan during . It could make all the difference when every single second counts.
