📱 New Law Cracks Down on Telemarketing Scams!

Pennsylvania’s new Act 47 of 2026 strengthens consumer protections against unwanted calls, scam texts, robocalls and deceptive caller ID practices.

The law includes several important protections:

📵 No telemarketing calls before 9 a.m., after 7 p.m., on Sundays or legal holidays.

🛑 Written consent is required for most robocalls and telemarketing texts to people on the Do-Not-Call List.

☎️ Deceptive caller ID information and false identification are prohibited.

📲 Consumers can opt out of telemarketing texts by replying “STOP,” “QUIT,” “END,” “CANCEL” or “UNSUBSCRIBE.”

These protections give Pennsylvanians more control over unwanted solicitations and help hold telemarketers accountable.

Visiting Penn State Berks! 🏫

I had a great time visiting Penn State Berks this past Friday! I met with University Police and Public Safety to discuss their operations, priorities and challenges, and toured the Manufacturing Innovation and Learning Lab (the MILL).

The MILL is a hands-on education and workforce development hub helping prepare the next generation of workers and support the future of manufacturing in the Berks County region.

It’s exciting to see the innovation, education and workforce development happening right here in our community. Thank you to the Penn State Berks team for the informative visit and for all you do to support our students and local workforce!

🎰 Skill Games Update

A Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling declaring skill game machines illegal slot machines took effect Oct. 13 after lawmakers failed to enact legislation to authorize and regulate them.

For more than a decade, skill games have helped small businesses, veterans’ organizations, volunteer fire companies and other social clubs generate revenue to keep their doors open and support local community initiatives.

Unfortunately, House Democrats failed to bring legislation to the floor to address this issue. Disagreements over taxation—including Gov. Josh Shapiro’s proposed 52% tax rate—and how the revenue would be spent prevented action.

Our small businesses and community organizations deserve a fair, practical solution. We need a reasonable regulatory framework that provides clear rules and allows these local establishments to continue supporting our communities.
