At approximately 8:30 p.m. this evening, crews were dispatched to the 11500 block of E. 56th Terrace in Raytown for a reported residential structure fire.

Upon arrival, responding companies found a tree through the roof of the home, with smoke and fire showing from the structure. Crews quickly began operations to contain and extinguish the fire.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

REMEMBERING 9/11 | 25 YEARS LATER 🇺🇸

Today, members of our department took time to participate in the annual Kansas City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Downtown Kansas City.

We climbed not simply to remember, but to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the countless families and communities forever changed on September 11, 2001.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of that tragic day, we pause to remember the sacrifice, courage, and service displayed 25 years ago — and the heroes who never made it home.

May we never forget.

May we always remember.

National Preparedness Month, sponsored by FEMA and held annually in September, is a good reminder that natural and man-made disasters can strike at any time.

It's important to always have a planned response when you're at home, at work, on vacation or on the road.

The National Safety Council recommends the following general precautions that apply to many disasters:

● Make sure at least one family member knows first aid and CPR
● Download the FEMA app for resources, weather alerts and safety tips
● Have a family communication plan in place
● Have all family members' and other important phone numbers written down
● Have an emergency kit in your car & at least 3 days of food and water at home
● Store all important documents in a fire-proof safe or safety deposit box
● Know how to shut off utilities

Mother Nature apparently decided we weren’t sweating enough and cranked the thermostat up a few extra degrees.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect through 7:00 PM Wednesday, so now is a good time to take the heat seriously — even if you’re pretending you’re tougher than the thermometer.

☀️ Beat the heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water; don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
🏠 Take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade.
👶 Check on children, older adults, and those who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
🐶 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
🚗 Remember, the inside of a vehicle can become dangerously hot in minutes.
🚨 If someone is showing signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, take action and call 911 when needed.

And remember: sweat is not a personality trait. If your body is telling you it’s had enough, listen to it.

Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Stay safe.

Crews are currently battling a working duplex fire in the 7500 block of Hawthorne Ave. in Raytown. Upon arrival smoke and fire was showing.

Please use caution in the area while crews work to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Raytown Fire Marshal’s Office and no injuries to report.

This week, members of Raytown Fire Protection District continued to learn, lead, and share.

• Community Paramedic, Matt Cushman spoke at the Missouri EMS Conference about our Community Paramedic Program and the work being done in Raytown.

• Chief Rogers, Battalion Chief Smith, and Battalion Chief Helphrey attended the IAFC Fire-Rescue International (FRI) in Kansas City, learning from fire service leaders from across the country.

We’re proud to have our people sharing what we do, learning from others, and bringing new ideas home to better serve our community.
