Water Restriction Info
The Town has received questions about why a water restriction was imposed even though we recently had significant rainfall.

The short answer is that Rockingham County remains in severe drought conditions.

A few rainy days do not immediately restore groundwater supplies that have been depleted over a long dry period.

What You Need to Know:
A water restriction is a temporary limit on non-essential outdoor water use designed to reduce demand on the water supply while drought conditions persist.

Examples of activities that may be restricted include:
- Watering lawns and ornamental turf
- Filling or topping off non-essential outdoor water features
- Other discretionary outdoor uses that consume large volumes of water

These restrictions may be imposed under RSA 41:11-d and can apply to any public water system, community water system, and private wells, depending on the situation and the authority imposing the restriction.

What a Water Restriction is NOT:
- It is not a shutoff of municipal water service.
- It does not prohibit essential household uses such as drinking, cooking, bathing, flushing toilets, or basic sanitation.
- It does not prohibit necessary care of livestock or other critical health and safety uses.
- It is not intended to prevent reasonable watering of vegetable gardens or other food-producing plants when needed for their survival.
