As WHC continues our housing-friendly policy series, we're focusing on the significant impact of parking reform and decreased parking minimums on housing development. Recent state legislation reducing parking minimums to one spot per residential unit is a pivotal step towards creating more affordable housing options.

By decreasing parking requirements, communities can optimize space for housing projects, addressing market demand more effectively. We commend the Seacoast communities that have already embraced this change in their zoning practices, and look forward to working together to continue this crucial work.

We are excited to highlight the significant impact of housing-friendly policies in our Greater Seacoast communities. Recent changes in state law and greater public engagement have prompted many towns to recognize and act on the urgent need for diverse housing options.

During this year's Town Meeting Day, we witnessed a remarkable commitment to advancing Accessory Dwelling Units , which can provide more attainable housing solutions and foster intergenerational community growth.

Collaboration among local policymakers and community members is essential to ensure sustainable housing practices. Let's continue this important dialogue!

A small policy change can make a big difference. 🏗️

The Town of Durham has approved an increase in height limits in its Central Business District from 3 stories to 4. That means more housing opportunities where infrastructure already exists, less pressure on undeveloped land, and stronger local economic vitality.

Housing solutions don’t always require building outward — sometimes it’s about building smarter.

👏 Kudos to Durham’s leaders and community members for supporting housing opportunity, and a special shout out to the UNH chapter for showing UP!
