Throw on your best khaki and muster up your courage, we are going on SAFARI!
That's right. We will adhere to all safety protocols as we get up close with some very unique Portage County Wildlife: Keep your arms and legs inside the jeep, be ready to outrun your friend who ate too much for lunch... Actually, we think you'll be just fine on this safari. A Snail Safari!!

**UPDATED INFORMATION AS OF 9/9/26:
The Ravenna Road parking lot project is being managed by ODOT and has been moved up. The section of the PORTAGE Hike and Bike Trail from Ravenna Rd. to Lake Rockwell Rd. is currently closed and expected to be closed through October 15.
We know that park and trail closures are hard. Portage Park District made every effort to have the projects causing closures to Towner’s Woods and the Portage Hike and Bike Trail to occur concurrently. Our planning page explains in more detail the property that the park district manages versus other entities. We are thankful for the partners coordinating this project working to complete these updates quickly. **

We recognize that temporary closures of the PORTAGE Hike & Bike Trail impact both recreational users and commuters that rely on the trail to travel between Ravenna and Kent. We are currently in the middle of important updates to this area that result in temporary closures. Construction on the new parking lot located on the other side of the Ravenna Road bridge will begin on September 15th and the PORTAGE Hike and Bike Trail is expected to be closed until October 15th from Ravenna Road to Lake Rockwell Road. The section that passes through Towner's Woods is now open, though the park remains closed. Immerse yourself in the sounds of nature during a gentle, beginner-friendly yoga routine at Yoga with Sequoia Wellness on Saturday, August 29th at Trail Lake Park. This practice will begin at 9 AM and participants are encouraged to bring their own mat and a beach towel to place under it for padding.

We would like to paws to say Happy National Dog Day! 🐾
Seeing your furry friends at the parks and on the trails is always a joy! Thank you for keeping your pet leashed and scooping up after them (and then disposing of the waste properly).
All of PPD's parks and trails are dog friendly, and here are some favorite spots:
🐾Shaw Woods Park- shady trails, views of the west branch of the Mahoning River, and so many things to sniff!
🐾Trail Lake Park- frequented by other dog friends, two dog waste bag stations, great views of serene nature while taking your human for a walk.
🐾Headwaters Trail (Asbury Rd. Trailhead)- more shade for those hot days, a waterfall to listen to during a break from walking, flat and mostly smooth to encourage your human to make the walk a little longer.
