Pennington County Democrats

Pennington County Democrats Advocates of transparency in our government for the greater good of all South Dakota families. Because THAT’S what Democrats do. Democracy. We’re on it. ☮️

The Pennington County Democratic Party – sometimes known as the Pennington County Democrats, PennDems, or PenDems – is the political arm of the more-than-16,000 registered Democrats in Pennington County. Any registered Democrat who lives in Pennington County is welcome to participate. Regular monthly meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Computer Village, at 6 PM. The County Party functions as a subsidiary of the South Dakota Democratic Party, just as the State Party is a subsidiary of the National Democratic Party. The formal structure of the County Party is based on the voting precincts in Pennington County. Each precinct is entitled to two votes on the governing body – the County Central Committee. Those representatives are the precinct committeewoman and the precinct committeeman. Among the foundational principles the Pennington County Democratic Party believes in are the following:

Everyone is entitled to the same rights, privileges, advantages, and opportunities as any other person. There are no exceptions. Due to historic prejudices and inequalities experienced by the Native American population in South Dakota, additional efforts must be made to overcome prejudice and ensure fair opportunity for members of racial minority groups. The importance of high quality public education was recognized by South Dakota’s founders and enshrined in the State constitution which states in part that “it shall be the duty of the legislature to establish and maintain a uniform system of public schools … and adopt all suitable means to secure to the people the advantages and opportunities of public education.”

Taffy Howard is a definite “no vote” on November 3rd. You have better option. His name is Michael Calabrese and he votes yes for Pennington County AND South Dakota families.

District 35, Ken is your candidate. And a damn fine one.

District 35, Ken is your candidate. And a damn fine one.

Hi I am Ken. I like long walks with my dogs, cooking homemade meals, and democracy. 🇺🇸
You can catch me at community blood drives, labor union picnics and an occasional ball game.
I’m known for my deep and charming voice and my unwavering belief that everyone should be allowed to live as they choose and make a living wage while doing so. ✌

I would appreciate your support and your vote on November 3rd. Let’s bring our voice to Pierre.

CITY OF RAPID CITY TO HOST OPEN HOUSE ON PROPOSED DATA CENTERS ORDINANCE

RAPID CITY, SD—Rapid City’s Community Development Department will host an open house next week on a proposed ordinance regarding data centers in the community.
The open house is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14 from 5-7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers and the Circle of Friends Community Room of City Hall. Community Development staff will be available to share details of the proposed ordinance and take public feedback and input.
The proposed ordinance amendment would add provisions to an ordinance adopted by the Rapid City Common Council in December 2024 which defined data centers and identified data centers as a permitted use in light industrial and heavy industrial districts. The proposed provisions include distance to residential, extent of power, water and sewer usage, and noise and vibration standards to mitigate the impacts of data centers.
At its September 10 meeting, the Planning Commission continued review of the item until its November 5 meeting to provide work on the proposed ordinance, which includes the opportunity for public review and feedback.

President Trump is facing major backlash after telling a Nebraska rally crowd that Iran could “take out” Los Angeles or San Diego as a “small price to pay.” See how California leaders fired back and what else he said about the Iran war at the link in the comments.
