Randolph Fire Department Promotes Michael J. Austrino to Chief of Operations

RANDOLPH — Town Manager Brian P. Howard and Randolph Fire Chief Paul C. Frew are pleased to announce the promotion of Capt. Michael Austrino to Chief of Operations for the Randolph Fire Department.

Austrino steps into the Chief of Operations role with 16 years of experience with the Randolph Fire Department, including 12 years of supervisory and command duties. Austrino previously held the title of Fire Prevention Captain.

Austrino joined the Randolph Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic in 2010, was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014, and became a Fire Prevention Captain in 2018. Throughout his career, he has taken on leadership roles involving both training and on-scene emergency operations, serving as a Training Officer and an Incident Commander, providing leadership both on scene during complex firefighting operations and behind the scenes during department training and professional development sessions.

As Chief of Operations, Austrino will support Chief Frew in overseeing the department’s operational and administrative functions, while continuing to focus on training, personnel development, emergency preparedness and organizational effectiveness.

Austrino holds a master’s degree in Fire Executive Leadership and Public Administration, a bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration and an associate degree in Fire Science, all from Columbia Southern University. He has also earned Commonwealth of Massachusetts Fire Chief Accreditation and Fire Officer III Chief Officer credentials, among numerous other professional certifications.

Randolph Fire Department crews quickly extinguished a residential kitchen fire yesterday afternoon at a single-family home in town.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m., the Department received a report of a kitchen fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke showing from the residence, and it was unknown if all occupants had evacuated safely from the building.

Crews quickly advanced an attack line and extinguished the fire while additional crews performed primary and secondary searches confirming that all occupants had safely evacuated. Crews also simultaneously performed ventilation and checked for any fire extension into the attic area. While the fire was quickly brought under control and contained to the kitchen area, the home sustained smoke and water damage throughout.

The home's smoke detectors alerted the occupants to the fire, allowing them to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived. There were no injuries reported.

The Randolph Fire Department would like to thank the Holbrook Fire Department for its assistance at the scene, as well as the Braintree, Milton, and Avon Fire Departments for providing station coverage during the incident.

The Randolph Fire Department proudly recognizes the retirement of Firefighter/Paramedic Gregory "Greg" T. LaFleur, whose final tour of duty concluded on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Greg joined the Randolph Fire Department on November 30, 1998, following his honorable service to our nation as an A1C (Airman First Class) in the United States Air Force. Over the course of his 28-year career, Greg faithfully served the citizens of Randolph with dedication, professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public service.

Throughout his career, Greg earned the respect of his fellow firefighters through his strong work ethic, compassionate patient care, and commitment to the mission of the Randolph Fire Department. His leadership, experience, and devotion to duty have left a lasting impact on this Department and the community we are privileged to serve.

In recognition of his distinguished service and commitment to the fire service profession, Firefighter Badge #94 is hereby retired from active service in his honor.
The members of the Randolph Fire Department extend our sincere congratulations and heartfelt gratitude to Greg for his 28 years of dedicated service to the Town of Randolph. We thank him for his dedication, respect, trust, and loyalty to this Department.

We wish Greg, his wife, and his entire family continued happiness, good health, and every success in the years ahead. Congratulations on a well-earned retirement, and thank you for your faithful service to the Randolph Fire Department and the community you so proudly served.

Randolph/Holbrook Joint Water Board Announces Startup of New Tri-Town Water Treatment Plant Transition to Begin July 6, 2026.

The Randolph/Holbrook Joint Water Board is pleased to announce that the new Tri-Town Water Treatment Plant has been completed and has received approval from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) to begin operations.

This modern, state-of-the-art facility represents a significant investment in our region’s water infrastructure and will provide a safe, reliable, and sustainable source of drinking water for the communities of Braintree, Randolph, and Holbrook. Most importantly, the new facility is designed to remove PFAS and meet current and future drinking water quality standards.

Beginning Monday, July 6, 2026, water from the new treatment plant will gradually be blended with
water from the existing treatment plant. Operators will carefully monitor and adjust flows throughout the
distribution system during this transition, which is expected to take approximately one month.

What Residents May Notice
During the transition, some residents may notice temporary:
• Changes in water pressure
• Changes in taste or odor
• Minor water discoloration
These temporary conditions are expected as the system is brought online.

All water supplied to customers will continue to meet state and federal drinking water standards
and will be regularly monitored and tested throughout the transition.

There has been a confirmed sighting of a small Black Bear in the area of Jane and Mitchell Streets. We have units in the area and Environmental Police have also been notified.

We are asking residents in that area to please be vigilant. Do not leave small pets outside unattended, please DO NOT approach the bear if you spot it. 

This is a young bear and is most likely looking for food, it does not appear to be aggressive, and should leave the area on its own.

The Randolph Fire Department would like to extend its sincere congratulations and best wishes to Firefighter/Paramedic Kalin E. Mazurek on her retirement effective Sunday June 7, 2026.

Firefighter Mazurek joined the Randolph Fire Department on December 4, 2005, and attended the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Recruit Training Program, graduating with Class #173 in September 2006. Following her graduation, she obtained her Paramedic certification and dedicated her career to serving the residents of Randolph with professionalism, compassion, and pride.

Throughout more than 20 years of service, Firefighter/Paramedic Mazurek has made a lasting impact on the department and the community through her commitment to firefighting, emergency services and patient care.

On behalf of the members of the Randolph Fire Department, we thank Kalin for her many years of jservice and wish her a long, happy, and healthy retirement. May she enjoy this next chapter of life, spending quality time with family and creating many new memories in the years ahead.
