South Coast Water District GM Rick Shintaku provides an update on the District's Doheny Ocean Desalination Project at Thursday's Sustain SoCal - Water Solutions Conference. Proud to be working with such a forward-thinking public agency!

SMWD GM Dan Ferons presented the District’s portfolio approach to ensuring locally-controlled, local sources of water to augment imports and provide reliable, sustainable water for customers. With him was Rick Shintaku, GM of South Coast Water District and key leader in the Doheny Ocean Desal program by SCWD. Also on the panel was Neal Aronson, president of Oceanus Power and Water, an innovative company focused on providing power and desalinated water for the region. solid panel of experts working toward water resiliency for south Orange County.

Congratulations to WPAA client South Coast Water District for taking a huge step forward last night in their goal of achieving greater reliability and diversification of the District’s water supply. The Board’s certification of the EIR for the Doheny Desalination Project was met with overwhelming community and environmental support and brings the 5 million gallon per day first phase of this exciting project much closer to reality. Congratulations to SCWD General Manager Rick Shintaku, the District’s Board of Directors and all of the SCWD staff and consultants for their amazing efforts to get here!

Very exciting to see this catalytic 418-unit mixed-use project moving forward, having worked to secure the unanimous support of the Placentia Planning Commission and City Council in 2018.

The city of Placentia has been looking to Anaheim’s Platinum Triangle for ideas on mixed-use development near large transit hubs the past few years.

What a great event organized this morning by WPAA client Crown Castle. More than 60 employees volunteered their time to paint, scrub, plant and provide a complete makeover to Memorial Park in Santa Ana as part of the company’s Connected by Good program. Many thanks to 1st District Supervisor Andrew Do and his district representative, Ofelia Velarde Garcia for taking time from their schedule to join us, as well as Santa Ana Councilman David Penaloza and new Santa Ana City Manager Kristine Ridge.

Kudos to WPAA client South Coast Water District! This is a HUGE step forward in the development of a much-needed resource for south Orange County’s water reliability needs. In the event of a major earthquake, the one million-plus residents of south OC could be without imported water for six months or more, making projects like Doheny Desal an absolute necessity.
